Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

I dunno, I am not really invested that much in how good or evil she was or harping on how everyone who doesn’t agree with me about it is a white knight so go off king. But if even the most stable snarkers ever tried doing their schtick here they wouldn’t be applauded as a fellow kiwi, they’d be mocked as an alog. For how evil she was there seems to be a lot of people who disagree and probably aren’t all fellow evil abusive people or simps. That’s pretty telling to me.

I would honestly laugh my ass off if the husband records another video saying "yeah it was ONLY other fur farms, sanctuaries and family that harassed us" and never mentions anything of the reddit at all. Or has to talk about the fact that he indirectly caused a tranny to probably commit suicide.

I await it all.
 
My girlfriend was the one who introduced me to Saveafox. We both love animals and seeing how happy the foxes were in the refuge was kino entertainment. Too bad trannies is one of the many reasons we can't have nice things.

Her poor kid. It's beyond heart shattering to read shit like this. Imagine being a child and growing up to find out that your mom did onlyfans and used animals as props in her nauseating porn (thankfully not in the way that sentence suggests, at least). There's a good chance that kid was gonna have to endure some traumatic shit whether Mikayla an hero'd or not, but her suicide just made what was previously a possibility into a certainty.

I guarantee Reddit won't be getting dropped by the DDOS protection provider and forced off the clearnet anytime soon, which is just as telling of how fucked up and unfair the world is.

I had been searching forever to get an accounting of what exactly the “bullying” was and why.

It sucks she died and all that, especially by suicide Jesus, but as I hadn’t heard of her before all I heard was the eulogizing and finger waving about bullying so it naturally made me curious.

Nothing real to add, just thanks to the posts who broke down what the hubbub was about.

I don't believe in "good" or "evil" people. I believe that people make "good" or "evil" decisions. I don't even use Reddit, in part because of the exact problems you mentioned: they encourage a-logging, poop-touching, and moralfagging. You specifically complained about "deconstructing and hating any person of note," and that's basically what KF is for; we just have more robust norms against acting like complete schizos about it. Being better than Reddit is not a high bar to clear, and there are aspects of this site that are absolutely "toxic" and "parasocial." If you seek to position yourself as having any kind of moral authority, you do not belong here, sorry. The purpose of the site is not to be an autistic illuminati against people we deem immoral; it is to laugh at people acting retarded in public.

But I'm also still unconvinced of hard evidence of a link between the snark subreddit and any IRL "harassment" that is being alleged.

The above screenshot is from a Twitter "Reddit Lies" thread claiming that is Mikayla herself defending herself in the SAFSnark thread. That she discovered it 2 months back and defended her work there several times.

Mikayla became aware of this subreddit some time in the past 2 months. The official SaveAFox_Rescue Reddit account was seen multiple times since April attempting to defend the Rescue against her detractors.

If true, her death is being attributed to a subreddit with sub triple digit comments annually, including her own defense posts.

As far as Reddit containment "harassment" campaigns go, this one seems pretty pathetic in scale.
