It's just fucking videogames... They kill your 10 year old game, so what? Who gives a shit?
Its been explained but since the feature tourists are here I'll explain again.
Consumer law already protects this shit just not with games. Imagine if you buy a waffle iron. Its a very good waffle iron, you LIKE the waffle iron, you are nostalgic about the waffle iron. Then one day I break into your house and steal the waffle iron because "hey waffle iron is over". Now despite paying good money for the waffle iron, and you having every intention to preserve the waffle iron, you lose the waffle iron through no fault of your own. This is 100% illegal to do and I would go to prison, because its YOUR waffle iron, at point of sale, it became YOUR property, and you can do whatever the fuck you want with it.
this is essentially the same shit, its NOT just eroded to the sands of time and forgotten, its NOT just a community not caring, its a design which makes a product useless and unusable over time. And not even via planned obselences breaking of material items, but code being designed to be entirely worthless if support is dropped.
This really goes BEYOND games, hell imagine if you had a planner software or editor you really liked. You pay 200$ for it then WOOPS, its dead, no more support, 200$ gone and nothing to show for it. This routinely happens and its being more normalized every day. Unless you are a cucked faggot who loves bootlicking for big CEOs, this should be undesirable. Its also a VERY easy fix for 90% of cases, and only a BASIC problem to fix for the slightly harder ones. So its easy enough to PREVENT, it costs a company basically nothing, its something people want, and beyond that, even if SOME games wouldn't fit this model, its not RETROACTIVE if put into place, its so if a new game is made PAST x point, it has to be left in a playable state.
i feel it would've never passed the corrupt EU, considering they're all WEF puppets anyway even if Ross got his 1 Million votes needed
I'm as pessimistic as you in many regards, but this is STILL an easy as fuck win. And EU needs some wins just so the citizens don't riot and anally rape their politicians with machetes or something. Key point its an easy win, its what people want, and ultimately it wouldn't hurt much to do.
Basically imagine if the actual USSR communists were getting flak, and COULD pass a "lets stop kicking puppies" initiative. they can hate puppies, they can hate you, they can hate everyone, but if passing it gives a few months of "wow, isn't USSR great, they stopped kicking puppies", yes they will do it. If nothing else because its a practical pragmatic win, and they lose nothing for NOT kicking puppies.
