Furry Fandom and Drama General

Look, in this day and age, much as you want to think people will not be assholes and steal your marketed shit to distribute for free, people are going to be assholes and steal your marketed shit and give it out for free. I'm pretty sure it's a sub-type of capitalism, in fact.

Yes, I can understand how it's kind of a dick move, and how it might be frustrating, especially if shilling for Patreonbux is the only job you've managed to get so far, but acting this self-righteous about it is definitely not going to help your situation.

This isn't the first artist I've seen who claims "furries are the only ones who really consistently pay/appreciate me for what I do" and I doubt it'll be the last, but that's still not something to be proud of. That doesn't actually make your art good, it just means a bunch of autists with no money sense like to throw their tardbux at you.

If a furry website is the only place which takes your art seriously, it's time to consider a different career from art.
To be fair, considering how hard it is to get into the art industry, I can't really blame them. And who could blame them for taking money from people that would rather get art than pay their rent? It's not like you know them personally, right? What's stopping you from taking an idiot's money so that you can survive instead of them? Especially when they're asking you to take it.

Because it's a horribly unstable career which could end in tears at any time.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to make furry your job ("A sucker is born every minute" and all). It can be extremely profitable if you're good enough. Just ask the people who founded Bad Dragon...

But for some reason furry artists started jumping on the Patreon bandwagon without knowing how it works, and then flipping their shit when they finally learn. It was designed to be a way for creators to earn money but some furry artists tried to make it a free "pay site" service to paywall their content - what the site wasn't really designed for. It also seemed to encourage artists to become lazy and use the Patreon income in place of trying to earn money from Commissions.

I guess that this wasn't exclusive to Furries since Patreon changed their rules now and charge you up front. For a while it seemed that most of the artists I watch were jumping onto Patreon, and then within a month or two posting similar journals about how they were being "ripped off".

That's the biggest thing. A lot of furry artists see patreon more like a piggy bank so they don't have to actually do work.

I don't really care that much if a furry artist makes his/her living off drawing for furries but feeling entitled to donations is a really bad attitude.

Patreon is for donations. Some people offer rewards, but it's not supposed to be a way to charge for content, or a main source of income except in a few very successful cases.

Their argument seems to be because the economy is bad it justifies it

Obviously. Hence why I didn't decide to go to art school (that, and my experience at them and the SJWs plaguing them). Though I wouldn't say that people can't try to pursue it because of that, though.

I don't have any problems with people pursuing at as amateurs, but according to these people, even amateurs are supposed to make a living from doing it, completely contradicting the meaning of the word.

I can agree with that. To say that you should be able to make a living off of it even as an amateur is really entitled. Though if you see that artists like bbmbbf making a lot of money from their shitty art, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Hell, lots of talented artists seem to get no attention, but hacks like him get plenty of money.

Hell, I'd say bbmbbf could be an artcow all to himself, considering how laughably bad his stuff is and was. I've heard that people had paid him to trace things, for fuck's sake, and they specifically asked for him to trace it. Not to mention the terrible rule 34 comics.

Who is bbmbbf? I've never heard of him.

I have heard of Tim "Miscarriage" Buckley and his terrible webcomic, though, so I know bad artists can make money if they're lucky.

I'd link his stuff, especially the hilariously bad Ashchu comic, but that's some pretty Islamic content there, man. Like I said, there might be enough shit on this dude to have his own thread, because my God, is his stuff bad. My friend says last time he checked the dude's Patreon it was over 3k. That's not too much considering the cost of living (to my knowledge, but I'm not too familiar with the standard cost of living, so correct me if I'm wrong), but it's way more than someone should be making with his skill level. And it's not like this is all commission stuff, too. Mamabliss has a very messy style (I like messy styles, but her's is a bit too messy) that can pump stuff out quick and can be easy to say is bad, but at least she has a gimmick, which is that she'll draw literally anything from your depraved, degenerate fantasies. She makes money by finding a niche. Bbmbbf's only thing is that he makes money by drawing porn of other people's characters, and not very well. I've seen so many better artists that make less than him. His "niche," if you can even call it that, is ridiculously common and he's outdone in said field by nearly everyone. Bit of a rant, but whatever. I felt that you might be interested, as the dude, like I said, could probably be considered an artcow.

If he's a good artcow, make a thread.

I assume because SJW are lazy and they always search for what appears "easy "than can also use to fulfill their sense of entitlement
