Mitch is also prone to having entire Windows Reboot sequences happen mid speech and has a track record of fucking over the new GOP's ideological effort. If there was one man I'd NOT trust to do what you'd expect, it's The Geriatric Turtle

See:
Precisely. A McCain could happen. I don't see why it would. It has enough pork to make the turtle happy.
It's possible that he flips, in the same way it's possible that we get hit by a gamma-ray burst tomorrow, but I don't think it will happen in this circumstance. Three weeks ago, Mitch spoke at the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and all he said was that the Senate will probably make changes to the Trump tax cuts and the Medicaid cuts as the House wrote them. He could have said "I don't like the bill, Trump sucks, a bloo bloo bloo bloo," but he didn't.

Holy fuck you sound like propaganda. We literally sell the chinks American nuclear plant tech.
And this is of course where you’re wrong.

Very wrong.

First of all, sure. China bought some American reactors. But they also bought Canadian, French and Soviet/Russian reactors, and used the expertise gained building those to create their own Chinese 3rd and 4th generation reactor designs.

The latest Chinese designs are more advanced than Westinghouse’s old designs.

For example they’re constructing a sodium cooled fast reactor that can close the nuclear fuel cycle. Something America doesn’t have, and hasn’t built in decades.

Another example are IV generation small pebble bed reactors for the interior of the country, which again has no American equivalent.

They’re of course also building a thorium based molten salt reactor. Something American nuclear nerds have been fantasizing about since forever.

Don’t get mad at the chinks for their progress they’re making. It’s not their fault America have let its nuclear industry die. But hey, maybe they’ll sell America some of their reactor designs? Those thorium and sodium reactors sound pretty neat!

Trump is unfucking the regulations. You are an idiot.
At least I know a little bit about the topic instead of just spouting off about China buying American reactors decades ago.

(And btw: After Westinghouse went bankrupt, the Chinese decided to scrap the American AP1000 reactor, and build a more advanced Chinese design instead.)

As for Trump unfucking the regulations: Doubt. It’s too little and too late. America is a whole generation behind, and there aren’t nearly enough nuclear engineers.

On top of that the solar/wind mafia is too powerful. Why would anyone invest tens of billions of dollars in a risky nuclear plant, when the government will subsidize your “carbon neutral” crap.

Trump may be in power today, but nobody is betting billions of dollars unless they know that there’s political support for decades.

Major cities are better off than other places, but even there, it's a shadow of what it could be. The use of public transit isn't incentivized, it's ruthlessly stigmatized.
In my experience, this is demonstratively false. The city I'm in forces, through regulation and auditing, companies to incentivize it's workforce to use any other mode of transportation other than your automobile, most notably public transportation. Those incentives are usually monetary awards for convenience but can be any number of approved incentives.

As far as "ruthlessly stigmatized", I don't think Public Transportation needs to waste resources from the Petrol/Auto industry to be stigmatized. The homeless drug addict riding the system non stop to get out of the elements and jerking off in the corner does that for free and its incredibly effective.

My point exactly. Frankly I haven't heard him say much about the bill. I've heard him say more on Iran than this. I take it as conformation that he's on board, even if he's a grumpy turtle fuck. That means his buddies like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are too, since they share the same RINO politics practically.

All inferior to US design.

Lol. We don't build those for a reason.
Another example are IV generation small pebble bed reactors for the interior of the country, which again has no American equivalent.
Lmao.

Thorium is hippie shit. Uranium is cheap as fuck and can be weaponized, which is good as a nuclear armed country. Also Molten salt reactors are for idiots.

they sound like rattletraps thatll go Cherynobel.

You are in fact a Chinese shill at this point. Huff paint.

Can you furnish a comprehensive list of new construction nuclear power projects in progress in the United States (beyond the initial exploration/assessment stage)?

It seems Trump is suing the NYT and CNN
Good! Make them bleed, or make them admit in court that they're "entertainment" and not "news" (like Fox did a couple decades ago). Then blast that to the public as loudly as you can.

Georgia for one. Pretty fucking sick too. Dropped power cost across the state. 3 mile Island is being brought back online. And multiple projects have been announced under Trump. Look up a list if you wish.

Lol that'd be great

Your first mistake is assuming that the Chinese can develop their own useful reactors without blowing themselves up. The problem with communist societies is the bureaucrats do not like to be wrong, so if something is done incorrectly there is a political incentive to cover it up. See Chernobyl: the flaw in the Chernobyl reactor was known before it was even built, but Soviet politicians covered it up. Nuclear accidents are "virtually impossible," Soviet news said. Then there was a massive nuclear incident which, by the way, wasn't even the worst one that the Soviets suffered. The Kyshtym (AKA Mayak) disaster in 1957 was much worse, but again the communist government covered it up.

I agree, because if it's cloudy and calm you will be out of luck. Aren't they both better used as supplemental power until battery / energy storage grows more efficient?
Yes, electrical grids have to rely upon a steady source of power because that's what they are built around. To be honest I don't even think wind and solar should even be a part of the larger electrical grid due to the instabilities and complexities they add that are totally unnecessary like for instance, the wind suddenly stops or clouds come in and now you need to increase the power output from gas or coal power plants to compensate asap.
Compare this with subsidizing the nuclear industry and allowing and equipping more nuclear reactors to harvest tritium for fusion energy research purposes.

This is why I mentioned thorium, it's safer so the environmentalist dipshits who don't understand nuclear physics are less likely to sperg out about it (they probably will when they hear about it using plutonium though). It also produces more energy than uranium does by a lot when the process is conducted correctly.
Yeah, thorium reactors are great.

The new sodium cooled fast breeder reactors they’re building are also really cool. Imagine taking the plutonium from your old nuclear power plant and using it as a fuel! Presto, no plutonium waste you can’t get rid of!

It be great if America could build more nuclear, but I see two problems.

1: The whole “carbon neutral” wind and solar industry. It’s a massive, and there’s a lot of money to be made there. Both for politicians and for scummy business men.
They’re likely dreaming of the good old days under Biden where the subsidies flowed and want them back.

2: Nuclear takes time. And is EXPENSIVE.
Now we have Trump in office who wants to cut regulations and make it easy to build nuclear. Great. But… Who’s going to be in power in 2 years? 4 years? 8? Is it Dems giving out more “green” subsidies? Nobody is going to invest real big in nuclear, and in nuclear there aren’t really small investments, unless they KNOW it’s a sure thing and the other side won’t jump in in four years and be retards all over again.

Anyways, nuclear rocks and they should take all those billions they waste in fusion research and build some more. Because unlike fusion it’s actually a sure thing.

Wind and solar are fucking retarded as shit and no electrical grid should rely upon it
Ill say this until im blue in the face, its the BATTERY tech that needs to catch up.

Energy is movement or heat at is very simplest, I ask you to find me better sources of no ending movment or heat that wont be damaged or affected by us tapping them? The sun gives us more thermal energy than we can shake a stick at, its THE solution for "free energy" as a society.

Check this shit out, did some napkin math with ChatGPT and JUST Utah as a landmass absorbs about 11 TERAJOULES of energy from the sun EVERY DAY

So if you take 4 fly over states like Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado, take 1/4th of the land mass of each and dedicate it solar panels with enough battery's to hold the energy and ability to disperse it where needed you could in theory power the world

Its not an issue of how much thermal energy the sun gives us, its a matter of how we store it and get it to where it needs.

Are those actually online (or actually under construction)? Last I'd heard they were all still mired in the typical environmentalist paperwork terrorism.

Anyways, nuclear rocks and they should take all those billions they waste in fusion research and build some more. Because unlike fusion it’s actually a sure thing.
Nah, fusion's still worth chasing. They've made good progress on it; it's not just (metaphorical) hot air. They've finally achieved fusion reactions that produced a net energy output (i.e. more energy came out of it than they expended triggering it), meaning energy production via fusion is now known to be possible.

We shouldn't put all our eggs in that basket, but I don't think it's been wasted effort so far. Beyond just seeking energy production, we've gotten some decent materials and physics science out of trying to achieve it besides as well.

I don't see a problem with investing in Fusion energy, easy way to save money on fusion subsides is to let more reactors harvest tritium so the tritium prices go down massively and more research can be conducted so we aren't stuck 30 years away from fusion energy forever.
It makes more sense in my eyes to take the retarded wind and solar subsidies and give them to the nuclear industry.

Your first mistake is assuming that the Chinese can develop their own useful reactors without blowing themselves up.
They can and did. Look at Hualong One or any of the newer reactors the chinks have built or are building.

They did that Chinese thing where they buy a new technology, (from France, Canada, Russia and US), learn from it until they master it, then build it themselves and finally improve it.

As for Chernobyl, that was a reactor that was old even by Soviet standards. The Russian VVER reactors are as safe as any Areva or Westinghouse reactor.

(And let’s not get too cocky. I don’t recall that the reactor involved in the Three Mile Island accident was a Soviet or communist design.)

Are those actually online (or actually under construction)? Last I'd heard they were all still mired in the typical environmentalist paperwork terrorism
Georgia is online. They are building additional reactors in the plant, but the completed one is lit up. 3 mile island is approved.
