I occasionally find myself watching BBC dramas, and invariably they are always set in the past, either just after the wars, before or in the intermediate period. They love using this old, beautiful British Trust mansions for the set pieces and it occurred to me that its just so sad.
They sit there dreaming of times a century past and do it in the crumbling monument of a bygone empire. The houses are beautiful, but they aren't lived in. The show cant hide the echoing desolation. The actors pretend that this massive mansion is theirs but nothing around them creates a sense of humans actually living there. Even the bookshelves are empty.
The rest of the stuff for their mass consumption like Doctor Who is just pure demoralization about how racist britain is and how everything needs to be gay and interracial.
Too be a brit bong is to suffer I've concluded.
