What was so shitty about Japanese culture? Was it just the general degeneracy or something deeper?
unit 731, theyre the reason why phones have to make a snap audio on any phone camera, porn everywhere, and anime they have budgets of 100k but they overwork people to death to make shit like demon slayer level animation while sleeping at their desk

What did you hate about Japanese culture? Was it just the general degeneracy or something deeper?
Oppressive workaholic culture manifesting in suicide and sexual dysfunction, their open secret of child sex trafficking in Tokyo, their love for oppressive government, the general lack of space effectively dooming you to a 1bd apartment, the 50% income tax, and in general they just don't want white people in their country. I really quickly learned I'd be seen as an outsider and treated with distrust my entire life, which would be confined to the concrete walls of an apartment. All the expats have stories about how they've lived in Japan for 30 years, have a wife and kids, speak fluent Japanese, and still have Japanese people talking at them in broken english because they just don't want to talk Japanese to a white person.

Oppressive workaholic culture manifesting in suicide and sexual dysfunction
Very true. I've been following this youtuber Salaryman Tokyo who works for one of these "Black Companies" which exploits fresh graduates. He lives this fucking miserable life with no time on his hands. So little time that he cant even get a girlfriend and he doesnt have enough income for a kid. No wonder their birth-rate is trash.

This is an extension of Japanese culture, which treats both sex and youth differently than the West, both as individual concepts and as a unified one.
This is a point I've been repeatedly stuck on. Theres some link between youth-cuteness-freedom-sexuality that I suspect that is linked to the harsh work culture and strict societial hierarchy upon reaching adulthood. As for female protagonists, I was looking into Japanese history. And found Japan has had 8 Empresses, furthermore the Shinto God, is Amaterasu, a female. So while on the outside surface, it might appear the Japanese culture appears patriarchal, but inside the household, and behind the scenes, the women rules with an iron fist. And the man is the worker ant.

There's also a meme about how dubs are better than subs in Anime. In normal media, it is basically unthinkable to try and sell a movie or a tv show to a general audience without dubbing it. Big countries like Germany and France have huge voice actor industries where the most famous celebrities even get their own dedicated localization doppelganger so that their voice is consistent across different shows. This is not the case in Anime. Nobody watches dubbed shows.
IMO the reason for this is that when an English speaker hears Japanese written dialog in English it is absolutely horrifically cringe. It only works as text where the confines of your head make it sound better. Hearing a real human speak aloud in your own language what the Japanese write is a painful experience. The distance of the alien Japanese language is comforting.
This is the one thing I disagree on, and I think shows like DBZ and Pokemon prove you wrong. Most people who watched that shit on TV, weeb or not, usually swear by the dub version. It's all about conditioning. Keep in mind that early 2000's western anime scene was entirely held up by fansubbers. You didn't get to watch most seasonal anime with English voice acting unless it was high profile and/or kid friendly enough to appear on Toonami. I also think those same fansubbers are responsible for some of the weeb obsession with certain autistic translation choices, such as keeping the japanese honorifics like -chan, -san, -kun in subtitles to this day. I'd say that's the biggest influence there. To compare it to your movie analogy, it's like being a fan of european indie films and they're only ever subtitled so you get too used to hearing the french that it becomes the norm for you.

100% deserved, slant-eyed boomer faggot Nips push their children to work to the bone and then wonder why they have no grandchildren.
Literally. Like 1 in 10 of those boomer japs are part of the rice farming business, a business that's subsidized to such a degree by the rest of society that the same rice farmers are able to only work part-time and just a few months of the year, and still have a good living standard. Pensions in the West are a ponzi scheme, but in Nipland everything is a ponzi scheme engineered to keep the LDP in power forever

In general he is right. There are always exceptions, whatever. But in general, people watch subbed. That's just a fact

I never said more people watch dubbed but I can see where the confusion comes in. I edited in the other part of the quote I missed which is what I was mainly arguing against. It's not about which is more popular, but why it became that way.

Anime is written very direct. There is little subtext left up to the imagination. Characters clearly communicate how they are feeling and what they are thinking. I could not finish Death Note because Light basically speaks aloud his plans even when it's very obvious what he's doing, and that frustrates me. This is a frustration I've had with other shows. I watched the Madoka movie with someone and the ending builds up to this very sad sacrifice, which ultimately resolves itself with a Space-God-Cat explaining (for about 15 minutes) that the laws have physics have changed because the sacrifice was so big, and that means everything goes back to being normal and the sacrifice wasn't even a real sacrifice. This is autistic friendly writing.
I'd argue why that's why a lot of cult classic manga never got anime adaptations, more complex storylines and themes don't sell unless they're marketable in some fashion. I doubt we'll ever see something like Goodnight Punpun marketed the same way Madoka would be.

For me the filter was every female character trying to talk and sound as high pitched and cute as they could. Made me cringe and made them sound like skinwalkers
It feels like someone's running a cheese grater over my eardrums when I hear that, because it is NOT how normal Japanese women talk.

Because they can't readily export them to a western weebshit audience who want titslop and lolishit. Methinks this is also why the detail and quality of the actual anime artstyle has been on a steady decline. Because something like Ghost in the Shell or Jin-Roh with how gorgeous they look and all the little details that sell the setting and make the characters more expressive? All those extra frames of animation that make things look smoother and more lifelike?

Yeah that shit takes too long and dumbass weeaboos in the west or broke salarymen virgins won't even notice or appreciate it anyway, SO HURRY THE FUCK UP AND MASS PRODUCE THE TITSLOP AND LOLISHIT WAGIE!

it's all cause of marketing, there's barely any Satoshi Kons and Mamoru Oshiis anymore because of the risk and budget that goes into making those sorts of projects, there's no real passion behind a lot of the shit that's being pumped out lately. There has been some exceptions here and there, but for the most part, it's just to appeal to the same core audiences that keep the money flowing.

and in general they just don't want white people in their country
Normally I would say that a country wanting an ethnic homeland of their own is not inherently a bad thing but from what I've heard they're starting down the road of importing infinity immigrants for cheap labor so lol.

My favorite "Japan Hate" fact is that the isekai genre exists because so many depressed, suicidal salarymen fantasize about getting hit by a bus and reincarnating into a world where they don’t have to go to a corporate job — and you can make millions from them as a target audience by writing a light novel about it. As a bonus, even the mangakas are probably suicidal:

Anime to me is just like movies. Like saying you are never going to watch a movie ever again because Cuties or Supervixens was made using the same medium
I agree, but Hollywood surprisingly has very few such films compared to anime, so I can understand why people don't like anime as a whole (even though they're wrong and some anime is based as hell).

No they arent going to kill a drag queen for reading a gay book to a kid although they shouldnt bc doing that in the first olace but not to a point where you just shoot them.
Not shoot them, but put them in prison.

I gave all of them a shot and religiously watched DBZ so we could talk about it, and all I remember about DBZ is how fucking slow it was. There is a filter built into the medium and it sorts people by some sort of criteria.
Being slow is the point, it's like a western in that sense. Lots of talking and buildup, shits of the environment and stuff. Probably seems like a weird comparison but it's pretty accurate, so people go into it expecting a speedy pace it doesn't have.

Actually, Dragon Ball Z Kai is an edit that addresses this pacing "problem", but it ends up sucking out the tension from scenes. Worst offender is a scene where Vegeta puts everything he's got into a blast to try killing Cell, in the original it's a desperate, epic 5 minute power up, but in Kai the scene looks like a regular attack no different than any other in the series.

Depends. For Z there's multiple dubs, Kai being the worst of them all, and it's so bad that I'd rather watch sub even though I'm generally a dub guy.

Easy money glitch? Should I try this (minus the cunnyfag nonsense)

I think for anime like DBZ or Naruto that were popular when people were growing up it certainly leaves an impression. If you saw an anime like that on Toonami you're going to be biased to the dub.

However in general I think anime that is better dubbed also usually has a higher quality of writing and story telling than slop shonen does.

Animes like Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood work well dubbed because the dialogue is more refined and not overtly direct or cringe.
