UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

From many people I have spoken to in Church, another perspective is that the government is weaponizing it. I am surprised by how many people in my church dislike Islam (correct choice). They fear a government trying to kill their native race. I heard this last week and I was gobsmacked, I wondered if this was a farms user, not a 70-year-old woman.

Weed does so much damage. I grew up around a few smack users who stupidly switched to weed and are dependent on it, and their brains are scrambled. It pains me, but I would rather they had died because they are all shells. Cannabis usage over successive uses delays transmission, but also erodes any ability to deal with complex emotions and scenarios. Alcohol is fine because alcoholism is relatively rare; it is more common in areas with economic factors.

I think tomorrow is make or break for Starmer, and I think he is going to cancel the vote. He thinks he can win back people with pro-authoritarian adverts, MY NIGGER YOU ARE FUCKING -80% IN POLLS, YOU AREN'T GETTING THE MESSAGE. You can only win that with a mandate and be popular and to say, I am going to be Orwellian is fucking retarded because then people know its an experiement retard.

You'd think someone fighting for their life would be in the bear pit, but Starmer has had 1 public appearance. His MPs were threatened to attend his follow-up on Thursday, but barely anyone showed up. Meanwhile, Reeve's policies have made 100 billion in wealth leave the country. Rayner's awful policies are slowing Lords to a snails pace due to her retarded tosh. This is a paralyzed government where Streeting is trying to win, but he won't. You cannot pack your bags for months and hope everything will get better; it will get worse, and this time, there are no prison spaces.

Weed and any other recreational drugs should be banned for no other reason that every person who takes them is insuperable.
Every weed smoker I've ever met has had a strange clumsy slowness to them that I cant quite put my finger on. Its almost like it locks them out of reaching a regular level of alertness that normal people have, even long after they've quit.

People who are dependent on it are especially insufferable. It varies between people I'm sure, but people who mysteriously ask for money every week or so who also happen to be forgetful, smelly and ungrateful adds an extra layer to it that puts me off of stoners completely.

Was going to write something like this before but tbh both you guys have put it far better than I could. Weed is dangerous BECAUSE it's relatively harmless in low doses aka, the majority of people who have a joint at the top of a scenic walk or at a festival or as a little treat when they go to Amsterdam. The smoke weed everyday folk (and everyone here knows someone who is like that) are just so fucking slow and talk like retards. Their thought processing is fucked, they get angry because they can't grasp simple concepts and if they're running low on weed they'll panic and start looking for sketchier and sketchier sources.

Trauma potheads are the worst by a long distance mind, the ones who have had an incredibly traumatic experience (rape, domestic abuse, child abuse etc.) and just physically cannot stop smoking because the second they stop, the second they have to deal with their inner thoughts. I know it feels bad to shit on rape victims but weed is the most counter productive thing you can do with heavy trauma as it allows for ZERO self reflection or self realisation which is key for growing around the trauma and being able to salvage a life for themselves. These trauma potheads will go into the sketchiest areas half baked for their weed, inevitably end up with more traumatic encounters as people see them as vulnerable people and the cycle just keeps going on. The kicker, because weed is so ingrained into their 'healing' process, any suggestion that they should cut back is the equivalent in their mind of saying "You should get raped again". They're just simply never going to stop because if ever they do, they'll probably off themselves by wondering where the past 15 years of their lives has gone.

There were no prison spaces last Summer, the sheer amount of fuckery required to make sure there were enough spaces was complete insanity. They basically just told a bunch of people who shouldn't have been let out that their custody time was done and chucked them into the probation service. They'll do it again if they have to, because Albanian rapists flooding our streets is totally fine as long as the message is out that being angry at Pakis will see you get 2 years in prison.

So, back in Edinburgh for the first time in 13 years, and I've gotta say, it still seems OK. Not nearly as "diverse" as I was expecting, and except for one person all the homeless/ beggars were native junkies, not foreign imports. It is tourist season of course, but even my uber drive was a native. Everyone seemed to have a healthy disrespect for tourists, even my wife and I got some crappy service at a pub that clearly wanted to be locals only. (They made it clear we weren't wanted before we even ordered, so we just left. I'm very pro-gatekeeping as long as you don't take my money first).

What the fuck is going on with the weather though? I didn't know the sun ever shone in Edinburgh.

Only here for one full day (today), so what should i order from Greggs? I think thats the most important question.

We're involved in those issues. Kiev was on the verge of making peace with Russia near the start of this and then Boris Johnson flew out there, said God knows what to Zelensky and scuppered the deal. We've given $13bn to Ukraine of our military stockpiles and other military aid and who's counting how much more we've also given in direct financial aid, loans that will never be repaid and the damage to our trade?
That was on the orders of the American/WEF managers. We shouldn't be involved in the yanks either. We shouldn't be involved in Ukraine, let alone giving away money.
One of the reasons our energy prices are so bloody high is not just because our idiot government has been ploughing it into wind farms for the past couple of decades, but also because sanctions have cut off Europe's major gas supplier.
The energy price is high because of greed. Those wind turbines work wonderfully well when they're solely powering large factories, yet putting them together means we can't run a town? It's lies, damned lies and energy price fiddling.
100% I get to protest about the stupidity of it all, because I'm affected by it.

And I can protest Gaza too if I want to because even if I suddenly find myself standing shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of socialists, I'm still against Jewish Supremacists exterminating people en masse to get some new beach front property.
Then move. That doesn't involve us.
You will notice that nobody descends onto the streets of Manchester to protest the on-going tribal wars in the various countries of Africa, not the struggles in Papa New Guinea, nor the cartel troubles in South America. What of the Whaling in Japan? Where were the protests against eating dogs in South Korea? Many such cases.
These 'protests' aren't protests, but a socially engineered platform of manipulation aimed at citizens and governments alike.
Look at pride parades. They operate everywhere where the WEF has a strangle-hold has a march of truimph over the population.

TL;DR - If you, or anyone else, cares about foreign citizens that much, then move to their country and help them. We have enough problems at home that shouldn't be distracted from because of a nigger wanting attention on stage, or because muslims are unhappy that their shithole is getting buttfucked.
I get to protest because I'm British. If we lose that, it's not the people the state likes who'll be forced to shut up.
I'm not against protest. I would be against the removal of protests, as that's a sign of a dying, and very dangerous, authoritarian regime.
I am against non-British protests. Yeah, you can argue "but israel was given to the jews by brits" or "our money goes to ukraine", except that would be weasel words designed to argue in bad faith.
Notice again that very few protests in Britain are in the interest of British people. The farmers are ignored, the anti-migrant protests are counter-protested against by people who (are paid) have globalist agendas at the fore-front, not the health of the nation.

TL;DR - the vast majority of current protests are at the expense of Britain, not the protection of it.

The government won't do

Starmer Says He 'Deeply Regrets' Using 'Island of Strangers' Phrase

Sir Keir Starmer has said he "deeply regrets" claiming the UK risked becoming an "island of strangers" in an immigration speech that drew comparisons to the language of Enoch Powell.

The Prime Minister said he had not been in the "best state" to give the press conference, in which he insisted on the need for tighter border controls, as he reeled from an alleged arson attack on his family home.

He said he had considered pulling out of the speech after the fire at the property in Kentish Town left him and his wife Lady Victoria Starmer "really shaken up."

The Prime Minister ended up going through with the conference as planned on May 12, hours after the blaze.

In it, he warned Britain risked becoming "an island of strangers" without tougher immigration controls - rhetoric that sparked an immediate backlash and was denounced by critics, including within Labour ranks, as divisive.

At the time, Downing Street doubled down on the remarks and said Sir Keir "completely rejects" suggestions he had echoed Powell's infamous "rivers of blood" speech that was blamed for inflaming racial tensions in the 1960s.

But in an interview for the Observer the Prime Minister struck a more conciliatory tone, saying the language "wasn't right".

"I wouldn't have used those words if I had known they were, or even would be interpreted as an echo of Powell," he said.

"I had no idea - and my speechwriters didn't know either. But that particular phrase - no - it wasn't right. I'll give you the honest truth: I deeply regret using it."

He added: "It's fair to say I wasn't in the best state to make a big speech... I was really, really worried. I almost said: 'I won't do the bloody press conference.'

"Vic was really shaken up as, in truth, was I. It was just a case of reading the words out and getting through it somehow... so I could get back to them."

Critics drew parallels between the phrase and a passage from Powell's 1968 speech in which he claimed white Britons were at risk of becoming "strangers in their own country".

The Prime Minister stressed he was not seeking to use the alleged arson attack as an excuse and does not blame his advisers, saying he should have read through the speech properly and "held it up to the light a bit more".

He also backed down on language in his foreword to the policy document linked to the speech, which said record high numbers of migrants entering the UK under the last government had done "incalculable damage".

Sir Keir insisted the issue needed addressing because the party "became too distant from working-class people on things like immigration", but said "this wasn't the way to do it in this current environment".

Bro dude weed mentality messes up so many lives. Weed has been proven to stunt brain development and we all know how it dulls you to the world
That study was taken on developing brains, not developed ones. It causes less harm than alcohol or fast food.
There's nothing wrong with responsible drinking. The same isn't true for weed.
They're both the same; a substance that alters your mind. One causes mental issues, the other physical. I'll let you guess which one is which.
Weed does so much damage. I grew up around a few smack users who stupidly switched to weed and are dependent on it, and their brains are scrambled.
Your problem here is calling stoners smack heads when that's like comparing a kitten with a pitbull raised by a chav.

The discussion on weed is very strange. The real problem that should be addressed with drugs is cocaine; the cheap price, ready availability and rampant usage. That's a ticking time bomb, but I digress.

There's three things in play with weed;
1) A good chunk of people who take it, can't handle it, in the same way fat people can't handle fast food, piss heads can't put down a pint.
2) It has proven health benefits and the stigma that comes with being a "dude, weed, lmao" pushes people away from an alternative medicine to popping pills. This isn't a coincidence, as it would bring a lot of people away from taking extremely damaging 'anti-depression' and 'mental health' tablets. I could do a sperg on the effects of these, but I won't.
3) Weed usage is rampant and other than turning lazy slobs into lazy slobs with an excuse, it does little damage to society as those who consume it and can't handle it are wasters anyway, on weed or not. The way it does damage society is through improper control. Weed should be legalised in the way Spain do it - Legal to smoke at home, massive fines for smoking in public, and it should be taxed, lightly. heavy taxation would help the black market to flourish.

A vegan sausage roll you fucking retard, did you not read the OP?
You don't have to like it, so long as come away with an opinion about Piers Morgan.

Smoking weed and pissing in public town centres needs to be stopped. Having a weekend of a band playing in the park and a few pints and a joint once or twice a year isn’t going to kill the vast majority. There’s a time and a place for having fun and kicking back, and we used to be able to work hard and be sensible in the week and then a few in the pub at the weekend. Just like there’s nothing wrong with having a pint a couple of weekends a month and a lot wrong with drinking daily.
I don’t drink at all these days, but I spent many a happy evening as a a younger woman having a few drinks and dancing like an idiot to bands I liked. There’s a massive difference between hanging around town on a weekday reeking of weed, versus two pints of cider in the sun at leeds or wherever and watching someone you like play on a weekend . None of us were ‘cum sluts’ ffs we just went out to listen to groups with our friend group and have a dance. It was fun, none of us were degenerates, furries, porn addicts or trannies.
Moderation in all things. The last lot who insisted on total Puritanism weren’t much fun. We did eventually get a restoration out of it so hope springs eternal i guess.
Our main problem is rulers who hate us, perusing policies that aim to genocide us, and mass importing the people who will do it.

None of us were ‘cum sluts’ ffs we just went out to listen to groups with our friend group and have a dance.
This is why I just won't take anyone seriously who speaks like this. It comes across like they are on a sliding scale from '15 year old boy who is mad popular girls don't like him' to '35 year old man who repulses women' so they become some tradcath larper instead.

I'm suspicious of a lot of these people who claim Islam is a cancer and must be stopped by all means, to only say in the next sentence we must lock down all our women to protect their virtue. If you really feel that way then you are no better.
