It depends how unstable Syria still is, but I imagine the local economy is at a premium and USD is worth it's weight in gold.

I've met plenty of syrians and their food is legit, so although she won't have fast food she'll have shit that's better than turds and rice

As pointed out by @autoerotic bus accident Syrian military conscription was abolished around the fall of Assad in December 2024, but I also think its possible Salah and his family may have paid for his conscription exemption anyway. Who knows, though. Pointless now, since its not mandatory.
