AMC now warns moviegoers to expect ‘25-30 minutes’ of ads and trailers - "Will this help us sell more tickets?"

AMC Theatres is making it easier for moviegoers to know the actual start time of their film screening and avoid sitting through lengthy ads. A new notice has started appearing when people purchase tickets via the AMC website, warning that “movies start 25-30 minutes after showtime.”

This already mirrors the estimated runtime of AMC’s preshow content, which includes ads and trailers, but now customers will be better informed if they want to arrive a little later without missing the start of their movie. This small change also tracks with a report made by The Hollywood Reporter last week that said AMC will soon start “addressing the preshow on its ticketing platforms.”

Starting today, AMC will also show more ads than before, meaning its preshow lineup may have to be reconfigured to avoid exceeding the 30-minute mark. The company made an agreement with the National CineMedia ad network that includes as much as five minutes of commercials shown “after a movie’s official start time,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, and an additional 30-to-60-second “Platinum Spot” that plays before the last one or two trailers.

AMC was the only major theater chain to reject the National CineMedia ad spot when it was pitched in 2019, telling Bloomberg at the time that it believed “US moviegoers would react quite negatively.” Now struggling financially amid an overall decline in movie theater attendance and box-office grosses, AMC has reversed course, telling The Hollywood Reporter that its competitors “have fully participated for more than five years without any direct impact to their attendance.”

This will save theaters! Disney (animated, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar) movies used to release in up to 4600 screens but I noticed with Snow White they only released on 4200 screens. Next year's blockbuster season will see tentpole movies being released on less than 4,000 screens. In a decade the only theaters left will be small, independent theaters playing old movies. Fuck paying for new movies, pirate everything.

but do you have loyalty cards you can opt into
I haven't bothered to see a movie in theatres for a few years now, but ironically AMC actually used to have a really good rewards program called "Stubs". You'd get points for ticket and snack purchases and typically I'd get a free ticket's worth of points for every two shows I paid for. Dunno if they still have that program as it once was but back then it was pretty cool.

Most people don't know that one of cable TV's original selling points was the lack of commercials. Then they started slowly adding them in until you're paying to watch a show for 2/3 of an hour and the remaining 1/3 was just ads.
And then after that we had this thing called Youtube, which didn't have any ads at all because it was just retards posting gay shit

They should make the skip ad button a micro transaction. Like you can skip the ads with a button 5 times for $5.99. Or you can get a 1 year long unlimited ad skip button subscription for $79.99.

I want the people who pay for this shit and are still vehemently against piracy to suffer as much as possible.

This is why I always showed up fifteen minutes or so after the listed time. Not that there has been much of a reason to go to the theater in the first place lately.

I know this thread isn't about the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and that I'm off-topic, but some lady pirate auctioning off goods is really gay.

Industry will be dead in 5 years.... mark your calendars now.
That asteroid is gonna hit us in 2032. The industry doesn't care anymore. They're trying to party while they still have time before they all head into the mountain to reenact Wayward Pines.

Coming from a Canadian but do you have loyalty cards you can opt into via a debit or Mastercard where you can rack up points you can use at.your theatres? With have Scene here that's partnered with Scotia Bank so you can rack up points to use at movie theaters or a money off at a couple different restaurants and grocery stores. I haven't been to the movies in ages but we also use to have cheap nights on Tuesdays but since our local theatre upgraded to cineplex years ago so now it's all ULRLTRAAVX and imax and D-box etc so I'm curious if there's any incentive for you guys to go the movies?
That is the most cucked thing I have read in this board today buddy.
