I suspect this will result in live-service game makers just putting their live-service games under a subsidiary they can terminate so that the EU has nobody to prosecute when a live-service game dies. Whether that's better or worse than the status quo, though, I don't know. Forgive me if this has been discussed before; it's a big thread.

the company selling the game needs an end of life clause explaining how you will be able to play the game after the live service sunsets. you can play russian dolls all you want. it needs to exist.

I doubt that very much, and a subsidiary is still owned by the parent company. This isn't like a parent telling their kid to go to bed, and then an hour later the kids playing video games and he quips, "well you didn't tell me when to go to bed!"

The EU is not America, and the EU doesn't suck corporate cock all day for breadcrumbs of bribes. Just ask apple about selling their phones in the EU under a subsidiary that has firewire connectors instead of USB-C ones.

I genuinely believe that a law passing to ensure that one type of online service is mandated to ensure it can be run after its developers decided to shut down official servers, can set a precedence to ensure that other type of online service is mandated to ensure it can be run after its developers decided to shut down official servers. In the end it's all about server source code. Him just leaving Scott hanging after the latter finishes his sentence, to play with his own cat is disrespectful, no questions about that.
