Okay, so I have only been lurking due to the fact that I have had nothing to contribute.

Gameboy Advance SPs have risen in price due to the Reddit-ification of retro game collecting. When Lou is talking about "101" he means the "good, more expensive" one. There are two GBA SPs. AGS-001 which is front lit, and the AGS-101 which is backlit. The 101 is now more of a collector's piece due to the fact that backlit LCD panels for modding the GBA SP are plentiful. You can go on eBay and get a modded SP for a decent price nowadays because people buy old systems in bulk, give them a new shell, and a new screen. The quality of these mass-produced builds are a bit iffy due to Chinese-produced shells, but you can even custom specify what kind of SP colors you want for the shell/buttons.

You have two options for the games: Bootlegs or originals. Bootlegs (also called reproductions) can be found for most Pokemon games that are individually housed on the cart. They will run you a couple dollars on AliExpress. You can also get other popular titles in their own individual cartridges, but Pokemon ones are the most commonly faked because of the money they pull in. Lesser known titles can be found in those "48484-in-1" cartridges. Original Pokemon games (and some other titles) have shot up in recent years due to the retro game collecting sphere.

I believe that Lou is angling to start "collecting" some of this stuff, based on the fact that he was dismayed that the SP he was gifted was not an AGS-101. And we all know Lou is too good for bootlegs.

I saw an ad on boomerbook the other day for some gameboy-sized handheld emulator that came preinstalled with like 100 or more games, no tooling needed just turn it on and go. The ad said you could download more games if somehow you didn’t already have what you wanted. It wasn’t very expensive either. I guess that’s not the same as getting the name brand system. lol he’s so fucking rude, every time a friend does something nice for him he goes out of his way to shit on those efforts. This game boy is scuffed but magnanimous Lou with accept it, what an ingrate.

I remember about a month ago when someone called him out for the heinous shit he said under that handle and Louie lied about it being his. Even Underwear LARPer called him on his bullshit, so he really couldn't keep denying it and just ignored it instead. I'd love for one of these days when he does one of his inevitable account switches after he's been catching too much flak for being an asshole, and someone comes along with receipts of his bullshit from his previous account and Louie does his "Nuh-uh! That wasn't me! That wasn't my account" shuck and jive, someone else comes along with receipts from his new account admitting it was really his old account. He typically does one of those intro posts every time he makes a new handle saying "Hi! I'm Lard-Ash Cat, formerly (old handle here)! This is my current account now if you followed me from my old account!" or some variation there of.

And speaking of how "aggressive" he has become with his posts: didn't he claim a couple months back that he had a knock at the door and nice conversation with the US Secret Service about the threatening language he's been using when he references politicians in his posts? Because he sure hasn't backed off on the violent rhetoric towards politicians since then. I mean, most people who have been Fed Posting and actually get visited by the Feds tend to, y'know...cool it with the threats and talks of violence towards government officials. For the amount he likely blew on a used GBA that’s scratched to shit he could have spent it on a clone system. Get one with a proper backlit LCD, and that also comes with most of the games pre-installed. But no, he has to go for the most retarded option, "Hurr now I gotta buy the games at a premium price gib money plz".

As usual though, he just wants it for the nerd points. He’ll use it for maybe an hour at most. Or even funnier, he'll buy some GBA game then realize the save battery is dead.

EDIT: Also, I missed the fact he said he didn't get the 101 model. To pull out my retro console nerd creds, the 101 is a model of the GBA SP that had a backlit LCD screen and is viewed as the "best" model of the GBA SP. Two possibilities of what he's getting:

1: The 001 Model, that has a frontlit screen, and generally looks bad - washed out colours, uneven lighting, generally considered a big step back from mordern LCD's.

2: The same as above, but broken. Assuming he got it on the cheap from a site like ebay or whatever, likely he'll be getting a console that is just plain broken. Unresponsive buttons, faulty cartridge slot, or just the effects of time - yellowed LCD screen, dead pixels, etc.


tl:dr Lou makes dumb purchasing decisions rather than smart ones for an extra 10 or 20 bucks.
