Vintage Story (VS) - If mc's terrafirmacraft mod was a full-blown game

Basically, getting bought-out by Riot and gaining more money and resources ultimately doomed them. They saw their new resources and tried to rework everything, which of course took years. Then they had to rewrite everything again because they switched from Java to fucking C++. Nearly a decade of "work" and they got nothing done, no wonder they cancelled the game. Would like to remind you that VS was in dev time for like, less than a year before public release. It was bare bones but they had more to work with than Hytale had in the 7+ years of "developement."
it's even worse when you think about it being a fucking minecraft-clone. there's no need for a horde of artists to churn out endless 4k textures, models, animation and levels, most of it are fucking blocks you arrange differently via code, that's all of it, nothing more.
:stress:

WHAT THE FUCK the river mod's author got banned for some reason and now their reuploads are being deleted what the fucking nigger shit
I've been following this for a while... sneezerstein/imnuts is a ponyfag shit stirrer. Pissed the moderators off because he wouldn´t put a proper description for his fishing mod and trolled them for a bit before being banned. modpage archive, see comments
Probably part of some weird brony clique, which I am sure this individual is part of.
I think he also went off on them in their discord, but it got nuked so there is nothing to see there.

Anyone know which mods are known to cause huge random lag spikes (besides better ruins), tired of playing whack-a-mole just to find out which mods are the most poorly coded and unstable.

Ahh, modding and crippling, spiteful autism are inescapable. Fuck I hate bronies with a passion, I knew someone who was one and he and his friends were the creepiest motherfuckers on the planet. So what was even the big thing? It's a mod that adds fishing but because it didn't state exactly what fishing related things it added the janny got on his ass, so instead of just being slightly more specific he decided to spitefully troll the jannies before he DFE?

People complained his mod wasn't about just fishing, also added a drug lab? Some shit like that. Wasn't included in the description, no mechanics of either fishing or the drug lab were explained. Moderators were involved, dude wrote a shitty description at first, then a chatgpt one, trolling them on the mod page and discord. Got banned, reuploaded the mod with another account "jigglepiss" with ponyfag avatar, got found out cause he sperged at mods, got banned again. At some point even Tyrone got involved, a private discussion happened and he doubled down on the 1 year ban.
I think the dude bundled a downloader for mods that are not present on moddb too, but I am not sure if it was on the fishing mod or not. Might have been the rivers mod that had the auto downloader? In any case I would avoid anything he makes. Trolling the jannies is funny but I think he's gonna become actively malicious.
A reminder that the mods are not sandboxed whatsoever and an external downloader can become a trojan.

Also I believe the dude is just "vibe coding" his mods. Nothing against that, if it works it works I guess.

When I read this I thought that he was trying to fuck w/ moddb, similar to how the 4chan hack happened, as opposed to with people downloading the mod itself.
Dunno how plausible that is, oh well.

Probably just me but I'm noticing more and more modders are including actual malicious shit in their mods. It's still a tiny amount of modders but still, definitely a pain in the ass that you might have to start looking through the code of mods just to make sure there's no malware or trojan shit in it, would be great if they had a team of people who tear people's mods apart and look at the code just in case, we don't need another "Fracturiser" incident.

Which dude, the same dude we were talking about or the Better Ruins guy?

I hate 99% of modders.

Pretty sure sneezerstein/imnuts vibe codes his shit, he even admitted it. The other ponyfag either vibe codes too or it's just some friend of sneezerstein that uploads shit on his behalf.
Better Ruins dude is not involved at all in this mess.

WTF is vibe coding
Vibe coding is a novel approach to software development where AI, specifically large language models (LLMs), are used to generate code based on natural language descriptions provided by the user. It's characterized by a more intuitive, less structured, and more exploratory process, often involving a degree of acceptance of the AI-generated code without full comprehension. -Google AI Overview
Wat?

Yeah... Now imagine making an external downloader mod from code you don't understand.
Now imagine finding vulnerabilities and exploiting them in an unrelated mod.
Nigga's malicious, if not by intention then by incompetence.
They (vintage story devs) will probably do something about this in the future. Many of the contributors woke up to the fact that external mods are now bound to exist and can be a vector for malware.

Explains why the Rivers mod was such jank, and even better does it explain why there was no documentation, or explanation as to what each setting does for a long tine.

On another note: There's a another river gen mod that's a fork of the OG, it seems to be much more stable. The downside is that the water has no flow.

Update:

I am truly 'less bad' now.
Winter is over - 2 greenhouses yielding food non-stop. I preserve in containers in my root cellar.
Made a sailboat. Truly awesome. Like having an RV. Stuff it with bread & stew and cruise the world and inhale resources into the -8- portable chests.
Made a suit of leather armor.
Entered the Iron Age .
Even found 3 sites of meteoric iron and mined them.

Armor question: As a Malefactor, my sneak has saved my ass on countless occasions. I know leather has no effect on sneak or running (or hunger).

Are the other armor drawbacks worth giving up my sneak and run speed for? Not to mention hunger?

I already got these 2 installed together; however, rivers seems to be making empty chunks on .20.12 (As far as I can tell, at least).

Yeah, use it instead for now. It's the easiest option anyway, if you wanna use the newest version of the game. RiverGen or something it is.
You could make a test server and try the OG mod from some other source, if you are okay with taking some risk and spendinng some more time. The water flow is not that important anyhow (you can download a mod to adjust the boat sneed).

In my based opinion, armor is not something you wear all the time. It's something you only wear when you know you'll need it, like when you go spelunking. So you'll still want to bum around in your normie clothes most of the time, but that armor will be there for when you need to suit up and do some damage.

Post the list, please
Working on it still, for now I'll give a small general summary:
Smithing related mods tend to cause issues and crashes, especially with other modded items and usually when picking them up.

Mods that add fauna tend to be laggy as shit, not only due to probably non-optimized code but because they tend not to balance spawns too well. The dinosaur mods I posted for example, there's one (or more) that add medium size dinosaurs that run all over the place (pathfinding or at least the AI constantly working more than other animals) and spawns dozens of them at once. So not only do you have something constantly moving, constantly "working," but tend to spawn in packs of dozens? I'm grateful the ones I'm thinking of are not hostile, imagine this but with Troodons so they're constantly trying to pathfind towards you?

Primitive Survival is a very well known mod, but how many people know that it has (or maybe had) an issue with stairs? Apparently even vanilla PS has too many stair variants that causes memory problems. On small, if not PS only modlists, it's not too noticeable. But mods that add materials can cause PS to add more stair variants, which means more memory usage. This is mostly important for loading worlds from what I can tell.

World generation mods, but even then I get mixed results. There's one called Conquest Landform Overhaul made by the people who made the semi-famous Conquest Reforged mod and TP, might cause lag but again I'm getting mixed results depending on mod combinations, my guess is that the more mods you have that add more flora and stone types to generate-maybe even biomes-the worse it might get.

Music or general sound mods, "old" (not sure how old) PCs may have some issues, only ones I've been told were Salty's Cave and Forest Symphonies. Though it might just be those two mods and how they're implemented.

Better ruins is a known one, not too sure how much lag and spikes it may cause but I know it does cause some, especially when loading chunks, hell even unloaded ones. Probably to do with calculations.

Having a bunch of small mods at once, you'd be surprised how less than a dozen mods can cause big lag spikes. I'll have to run a ram and CPU monitor and mess around with only a few mods-if not one mod- at a time and see if there's anything to note.
