A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It always seemed incredibly suspicious that Birmingham and London seemed completely absent of the grooming gangs problem despite being the melting pot of the third world. We're going to discover it was happening there but the cover up was so deep that bar the complete dissolution of the met police, the courts, the councils and everything else we're not going to be able to get anything done.

In their defence, there are no poor whites left in London to groom so the nonce to poor white child access would be very low. Birmingham is another case entirely.

Any where in the North of Wales is pretty much all white. If you're wanting somewhere in England then your best bet would be somewhere like Dorset or Cornwall, namely Tintagel in Cornwall which were one of the very few places that flat out refused to house immigrants in it's hotels.

During the summer they drop them in by the bus load. A local place to me went from mostly white to mostly brown in less than a week. I don't know where they were settled, no one could get a house in the area but they're there now.

The last time he brought a girl back to his place she was leered at by Arabs in the street and didn't come back. Barry walks to work while his neighbours stay in their free house and smoke weed all day, all while knowing that they could cause a house fire from being stupid niggers with no concept of safety so he doesn't even have anything to come home to.

Aged 21, Barry was voting for the Greens because Labour weren't left enough.

Aged 30, Barry is voting for the party that executes niggers.

It's like we're all playing in a Jewish casino where we have to get lucky and if we don't we could lose everything. The divide is becoming benefits or stock market jackpot winners and that's what decides if you can buy a home or not.

I have sympathy for the disabled who are forced into that life style. The current system doesn't allow them to climb out of the benefits trap. And I don't mind my taxes going to support native disabled people. I would rather every tard, cripple and mong get full benefits from birth until death than give a single penny to any foreign nation or person. If we're not going to throw them off a cliff as babies then we owe them a duty of care.
