Here’s the other thing on the Epstein matter that has been mind-numbing in the past few months in particular.
Due to Trump officials making promises they couldn’t keep, Trump supporters have had this idea — untethered from reality — of how Epstein-related disclosures would unfurl.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen say, “We need the lists so we can start arrests.”
The DOJ has, for decades, maintained a policy of not naming individuals in indictments unless they’ve been charged with a crime.
Remember how President Trump was referenced as “Individual One” in the Michael Cohen indictment?
The DOJ — unless it planned on upending decades of policy and opening itself up to all sorts of publicly embarrassing attempts at litigation — was never going to release a list of men who may or may not have been involved with Jeffrey Epstein.
How could anyone possibly believe that would happen?
Not to mention, Ghislaine Maxwell has an active appeal of her conviction!!!
Why would the DOJ release files related to Jeffrey Epstein, potentially compromising its attempt to get the appeal denied?
People thought a list of names would come out and then a bunch of arrests would take place?
Are you nuts?
Also — statute of limitations? That ever occur to anyone?
