Agreed, though with the caveat that I don't think retaliatory defamation lawsuits would be where it ends. Like yeah it'd be easy to prove damages if you're a really powerful person and the investigation yields nothing. It'd also probably be easy to start permanently silencing people.
This is why I don't ever expect it to happen and if it does it'll be by a Snowden style whistleblower. I still want it to happen, I don't give a fuck if the government gets sued so long as real investigations are conducted instead of this charade that's gone on for decades.
