The entire production is in Korean, they say they barely speak English in the description. That is why I am honestly confused who this would be for as this is clearly an international series, set in a universe that is for an English demographic. Will Korean people care about Huntress? Such a weird and baffling decision.


They technically did with LEGO DC Supervillains, which is by far the best game in that not really quadrilogy.

I think they trapped themselves by starting with Batman, so now the series had to be Batman themed to keep brand recognition. It was pretty obvious with 3 how much that initial branding was holding them back, and Supervillains really showed they should have left it earlier with how much of a rollercoaster that game is for DC fans.

Hopeful that we will get another entry, even if it is apparently Bat themed again (going off rumors). Supervillains was such a joy, but I still think they have areas to expand.

The movesets in Supervillains were some of the best since Dimensions, which is still the absolute peak of Lego Video Games in my book, up there with Lego Marvel Superheroes 1.

Never put much thought into the movesets, but what I really enjoyed was the levels and general energy of the game. Most levels took on unique locals from the DC universe, which was very much missed by Batman 2 & 3. I like how we had Star Labs, Oa, Atlantis, Themyscira, The League of Shadows, Stryker’s Island, Gorilla City, Apokalypse, etc.. They really made the most of the brand for once, whereas the others games barely did anything with the exception of Green Lantern in 3.

My only real issue is the character roster as they are really missing a lot of decent DC characters, especially if you don’t include DLC. Still find it weird how Question and Killer Moth got the boot. Somewhere between 3 and Supervillains is a perfect roster.

I could definitely see scenes like this featuring Superman where the US government sees Kryptonians like Zod coming after him as a threat to national security or Supes being angry if he discovered other governments were using technology from Krypton.

I really like movie Optimus, he feels like an alien by virtue of being so unlike the other Bay characters but still prone to being a bit extreme, like Sam freaking out and he’s just like, “Okay, calm down.” I could see a Bay Superman being like that, in a world where Jimmy Olsen carries a 9mm and has a tinder and Lois runs off fistfuls of niacin, caffeine pills and wine, Superman is the sole sane man.

He also doesn’t back down, see the forest fight, that’s what an onscreen Death of Superman should’ve been, spitting out a tooth, locking in, kicking ass and dying with a fist in someone’s throat. That’s all core 80s Optimus, defiance, strength and finishing off your enemy after they crossed the point of no return. The “psycho” stuff is in-line for Superman as well, like tell me Post-Crisis Superman wouldn’t forsake a reborn Krypton in favor of Earth then kill Lex, if Lex engineered the death of millions,

Bay was the right guy for Superman, based purely on his Optimus, I mean FFS Optimus even has a KC-style burnout (Peter really was the best part of AoE) and I have no doubt that it would’ve been the booster shot the character needs.

When it was first announced that James Gunn was going to make the next Superman movie, I was like "I like James Gunn's movies for the most part, but I don't know if he'll be a good fit for Superman."

I'm hearing a bunch of things about how this new movie is very "comedic" and very "self-aware" ... Which is basically my "nope, I'm out" scenario. My interest in this movie is very much DOA.

If you're going to do a comedic Superman movie with a wacky and jokey tone to it, then at least have the intelligence to make Mister Mxylptlk the villain? Have some balls, James. lol. You know, it's really funny how James Gunn recently made comments about how audiences "don't need" to see the origins of Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman at this point because everyone knows them ... All the while he's trying to sell yet ANOTHER Superman movie with Lex Luthor as the villain.

Capeshit is a dying movie genre at this point. Only Spider-Man and movies like Deadpool and Wolverine are making significant dough. People seem to be very much "over" the shared cinematic universe thing. If you're going to start a cinematic universe for a dying movie genre, this movie (from everything I have heard) ain't it, dawg. Who in the fuck wants to see an MCU-style Superman? I sure as hell don't.

Zack Snyder is a pretentious asshole who needs at least a 4-hour runtime to tell a remotely coherent narrative. That said, I would now bet money that Man of Steel is going to end up being a superior Superman movie.

Also, as a side note: I would also bet money that James Gunn probably told his dumbass brother off after the premiere. That one bow-tied fag entertainment reporter (I don't care to know his name) baited everyone by bringing up Trump supporters. James did not take the bait, Sean absolutely did and looked like a dumbass in the process.

Korean TV is the new Savior of the White Entertainment Biz right now because Squid Game is still doing numbers and Huntress is just insignificant enough that they can repackage her as whatever they want while still claiming it's technically an established DC property. It's pure design-by-committee spreadsheet-based storytelling.

to defend him, blockbusters make most of their money overseas anyways. the Captain America films had a notoriously hard time making money outside of america because people just didn't want to see a movie all about an American superhero. financially it makes sense to do full lib/civnat stuff in your film thats supposed to sell tickets overseas. its why they changed it to "Human way" too

Ever since James Gunn got "canceled" back in 2018, he's been very careful about rebuilding his image in the public eye, and he's been very calculated in his comments while selling the movie, trying to appeal to the widest audience possible. Sean's comment, while I'm sure James agrees with them, is probably thinking "FFS, I don't need to be associated with this soundbite."

As for the tone of this movie, I am perfectly fine with it being child friendly (which is why I'm happy that Krypto is in it). But, from what I have been hearing, the jokes don't allow the movie to breathe during its more serious moments ... Which is a huge problem for me. Kids are smarter than that kind of bullshit, too. Imagine The Lion King not allowing the stampede/Mufasa's death to play out seriously because "it's just a silly kids movie!"

The first Christopher Reeve Superman movie is plenty kid-friendly ... There's silly moments for sure, but it's also earnest AF in its delivery, and it allows for the serious moments to play out as they should. The same comments can be made about my most-favorite capeshit movies ever, the first two Sam Raimi Spidey movies.

honestly superman is right up Michael Bay's alley, its insane that they're turning superman into a liberal hero when everything about his background is super republican: He's from a small town, he's the son of farmers, and he's adopted. IRL he'd be extremely conservative.

The appeal of Superman is that he is both. He has a background that's kind of stereotypical conservative with the small town farmer upbringing but he's also a refugee from a foreign race who works in the most leftist-coded career around (journalist) and hankers after a bossy career chick as his one and only. People forget that Optimus Prime is a soldier with a higher kill-count than all of humanity combined. He is, of course, sick of it but he would be willing to do it. He wouldn't want to take a life of someone uninvolved in the war though such as the life of an animal.

Also, I think that while we were willing to give Gunn a chance, I doubt anyone truly believed he could do a good job with a character as sincere as Superman.

If it wasn't for the fact that I don't trust Gunn with this, I'd actually be quite okay with a Korean Huntress production. Sure, it's altering the character but Korean TV is refreshingly different than Western stuff. I watched Bad and Crazy and whilst okay - I could see the mid-season twist coming, it wasn't like the show was all about not knowing it. And Huntress is a martial-arts stick fighter. Koreans can do that.

If somehow Gunn could be kept entirely away from it and it be placed solely in the hands of Korean writers and directors, it'd probably be quite fun. And they'd have no problem making her sexy.

I don't think shared universe has to die. It would still be nice to see the odd cross-over elements. But you can't rely on it for your product's value and that's what they do. It's all about baiting people with teasers for other things or trying to get people to go "OMG! Character X appeared!". That hype is exhausted. But they still keep trying it.

Exactly, there were a lot of problems. Snyder does not write non combat situations well.

David Goyer and Christopher Nolan wrote Man of Steel. Snyder didn't write that one. I do remember around the time it came out, or maybe around the DVD release Snyder said somewhere his first cut of MoS was 3+ hours long.

I've always suspected it probably didn't have flashbacks and was more of a linear structure and they probably cut a bunch of other krypton and smallville shit. I'd assume that was probably a studio decision because Superman Returns biggest complaint was that it was boring and not enough violence and action.

Not that any of that stuff probably would have been necessarily any good but if I had to wager what the missing hour of footage was, I'd assume its that and they kept basically all the action they shot and kept bits of the first two acts but rearranged them into flashbacks instead of maybe going through Clark's life linear.

Unrelated to that, this week I re-read two Superman novels. The Adventures of Superman from 1942, and It's Superman! from 2005. The former I had read once as a kid from a library, the latter I've owned and read a few times in the last 15 years.

Spoiler: Adventures of Superman

AoS, I believe is the first novel based on a comic book superhero. possibly comic character too but I wouldn't be surprised if a Popeye novel or something like that predates it. It's a fun, but super light and pulpy little book. you get Krypton, Smallville, a little Metropolis, then Clark Kent investigating Ghost Ships and Nazi submarines.

What's interesting about it, is I believe this is the first time we get any real fleshing out of Krypton and Smallville besides 'Space people, their planet blew up' and 'farms, his parents died'. we get both sets of his parents, named and fleshed out to some extent. We get Jor El fighting with the council because they dont believe him, and Pa Kent dying of a heart attack.

We also get how Superman gets his job at the Daily Planet and it's pretty funny but retarded. I loved it. Basically when he's a teenager, he gets pissed off at people laughing at his dad trying to lift an anvil at a state fair contest (this kills Pa Kent because the strain is too much for his weak heart) and Clark lifts it above his head and chucks it or something. Perry White sees this and goes god damn kid you're strong if you ever come to metropolis ill get you a job because you made this stupid Kansas fair story interesting.

Years later, Clark shows up like hello sir im here for the job you offered me, and Perry White is like who the fuck are you and what are you talking about? and then Clark saves his life by pretending to be a pussy and passing out on a guy who rushed in to attack Perry who isnt sure if Clark is brave or the biggest bitch he's ever met but he saved his life either way so he hires him.

Clark then gets involved in a mystery for his first assignment and kills a bunch of nazis blowing up submarines and shit. It's pretty sweet. I particularly like how funny Clark Kent as a coward is portrayed in this book. I dont really like that Clark much, never have, but in this book it's just humorous. shit will go down, Clark will proclaim he'll help and then people will rush to do something and he just stays behind, turns into superman, saves the day and then the other people will come back and find him waiting where he claimed he was going to help at. and basically be like this fuckin guy said he would help and then just stood still for an hour while we went! what a motherfucker!

Overall its a fun junk food book written most likely for schoolboys in the 40s. I read it mainly because I wanted to know if it sort of reads like a sequel to the newer book or not, and it doesnt because my memory of it as a kid it never stuck with me this book had all the origin stuff in it. It's fascinating how much of that shit is basically just there verbatim from super early. (Check out the first couple episodes of the 1950s TV show sometime its just exactly how it always is there too.) It's really besides the origin material just a prose version of any generic superman comic story of the time.

Spoiler: It's Superman!

It's Superman! Is a favorite of mine I've read over the years. It's maybe? My favorite Superman origin with some caveats. It's Clark Kent from 16-20 from 1935 to 1939. Starts with him being interviewed by a sheriff directly after an outlaw shoots him in a movie theater (ruining the date he was on) and he catches one bullet and the other ricochets off his forehead and kills the guy.

the Clark Kent sections of this book are excellent. He's an aspiring pulp writer, and then he finds out he's probably from space and then no longer has any interest in writing about Martians, he's a bored reporter in smallville getting sick of writing bullshit, and when he takes off across the country he sees shit that slowly but surely turns him into Superman.

I really like the way it sort of builds up to the early S&S crusader Superman with shit he experiences and witnesses. His traveling companion is a bum photographer guy framed for murder by Lex who went on the run. They're in Texas in one section and Clark witnesses a mob rip apart and Lynch a dead black guy and he flips shit. he blows up every car in town and wanted to burn the whole town down but stopped himself, he was so disgusted these people would treat an already dead person's body like that. His buddy goes to prison and since hes innocent, Clark's first act as Superman is to go punch the fuckin wall out of his cell and fly him away. Later when Lex Luthor's robot goes on a rampage and Clark fights it, he takes that shit back to luthors office and throws it through the 30th floor window or some shit. I like the early FUCK YOU Superman, who sees something he doesnt like and deals with it, and that's who this book is the origin of.

If this book has any real problems, it's the focus, Lois, and lack of Superman. He's Superman for like the last 50 pages. He only really fights a robot. The photographer bum is a nice character but hes the main fucking character and that's a problem, and Lois, she's fine. she's kind of a whore and a total bitch, which is how I like my pre-superman Lois lane, but i dont know why Clark loves her. they interact like twice. I like this Lois, but her and Clark needed to spend more time together for me to understand what he sees in her. She hates him, until the last page where she despite her own shock sees him upset and wants to comfort him and doesnt know why and then gets over to him and he looks at her without his glasses and she realizes he's superman and they lock eyes and cum or something and the book ends.

The other big issue is less of an issue more of a trade off. The writer, fucking LOVES the 1930s. Like this dude probably masturbates exclusively to old photographs while listening to 30s music. every page has like 40 references to real life people places and things from back then. You also get to know everything every character thinks and likes no matter how insignificant. Now, this is immersive and well written, but it only works once. Every reread of this book i think wow if this guy wouldn't have wasted so much time talking about this nurses favorite jazz musician or whatever we probably could have had more Superman shit in this book. Get back to Clark and whatever hes doing.

Pa Kent is a funny minor character. He's basically the only colorblind or non racist guy in the 30s and even the poc's dislike him for it and that's just inherently funny to me because hes not like out shouting about racism he just treats everybody the same and it pisses off the white smallvillians and makes the black and native american ones uncomfortable. He also has a really funny exchange with Clark where after Ma Kent dies, the two of them go on a walk around town after the funeral and he basically tells Clark that God and heaven probably don’t exist, and that Clark's probably from outer space. Its supposed to be a tender moment between them and the big reveal to Clark, but it just reads so funny. That Pa Kent is hilarious. Imagine that. Your mom just died and your dad walks you to the middle of nowhere and tells you theres no heaven and also youre a fuckin space alien and does this as casually as he might tell you he got the mail already today. It made me laugh out loud.

Lex Luthor is a mob boss disgused as a politician. He's basically a blackmailer. There's a good moment where he's being chased and shot at in a cemetery and kills these dudes and realizes that's the only time hes ever felt anything positive due to being challenged or something and that it only ever happens to him again once he has Superman to deal with. He also gets a taste of his own medicine in this strange subplot where this random older woman blackmails him back and he ends up relenting and let's her come be his live in girlfriend because she's as evil as he is and I guess he just decides that she could be a good partner. Its never dwelled upon but she's always in his bed and shit and its pretty funny because he obviously hates her and doesnt find her attractive and seems entirely random but she's constantly thinking to herself how it's THEIR house or THEIR bed and he only ever refers to her as her last name.

Tldr: this book has some really funny probably unintentional moments, a really good Clark Kent progression, surrounded by a bunch of period accurate 'texturing' and useless information about characters and a sequel probably would have been better but it doesnt exist. Not fun in the way Adventures of Superman was, but entertaining although it sort of falls off in the very end by suddenly wrapping up
