Ahmedabad plane crash live updates: Air India plane crashes in Gujarat

An Air India passenger plane crashed shortly after taking off at Ahmedabad Airport. As per reports, at least 242 passengers were on board.

“This action was prompted by reports of potable‑water‑system leaks—stemming from improperly installed waterline couplings—that allowed water to seep into electronics equipment (EE) bays, risking electrical shorts and potential loss of critical flight systems.”

A known deficiency like that plus Indian grade maintenance is not a good combination.

Nice of Air India to keep its urgent fleet fix to itself.

There's been one oddly specific rumor that keeps popping up. "An electrical problem caused by water intrusion triggered the planes electrical systrm to think it had been plugged into ground power"

This first popped up a few days after the crash. But it always sounded weird since the way it was phrased made it sound like the water intrusion was at or around the ground power plug in socket.

I mean, Oakland International is right next door. The city even wants to change the name to mention San Francisco because tourists don’t want to go to nigger town lol
Oakland's reputation as nigger town is overblown. A lot of them have been priced out.

Problem is that the rest of them have picked up the slack.

Last time I was there the problem was the homeless everywhere, about 4 years ago. Any wide spot in the road, every underpass, any place they could park a criddlermobile.

It's funny though as my deceased aunt's house still sold for over a million. Two trips down to help clean it out was about my Oakland limit.

Europe has Ryanair, a very successful iteration of Southwest. It has such wonderous airport destinations like Paris-Beauvais actually Tille, north of Paris)which isn't Paris, not near at all. An Oakland-San Francisco would be less of a fake.

Well they wanted to change it to San Francisco Bay Oakland Airport but San Fran sued them so now it’s Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. We will see if it lasts.

Thanks for the video.

TL;DW: He first dismisses the idea of the flaps not being extended- in particular, the 787 will scream warnings at pilots prior to takeoff if they're not in the right position. He also doubts the idea of fuel contamination- most notably, there were no reports of other aircraft refueling at the same airport around that time having any fuel quality issues.

He acknowledges sabotage as a possibility, considering the state of Indian-Pakistani relations, but says it couldn't realistically be from deliberate fuel contamination just by scale. He doesn't like the idea of introducing a computer virus, either. And, notably, no group has claimed responsibility for it.

He suggests the main probable cause is that the plane lost one engine during takeoff and the pilots mistakenly shut down the remaining working one, going against normal operating procedure which would be to continue to climb on the one engine and address the engine failure once at an appropriate altitude and a checklist has been run.

Which is a day 1 theory that was already discarded because the plane flew exactly straight, which wouldn't happen if the engines stopped working at different times or if their thrust wasn't equal. Useless clickbait video.

Incorrect. The B787 has a Thrust Asymmetry Protection and Compensation system that immediately counters any adverse yaw and roll resulting from asymmetrical thrust.

A brief overview of how it works, including its functions during an engine failure on takeoff. Article title refers to the 777, however the 787 has the same system-

The video comments have not been kind at least.

An update - sounds like the focus is on the engine fuel control switches after review of the black boxes. Anonymous sourcing, but Redditors at least seem to consider the journalist to be reliable enough to not publish if he didn't have the good. Maybe some locals can confirm.

The article doesn't say it outright, but the switches seem to be basically impossible to accidentally move which suggests an intentional crash is a reasonable suspicion.

Mentour Pilot discussing the fuel cutoff switches and how they work.
Also some new discussion from John Goglia and Todd Curtiss (No Greg Feith today)
Still no actual info from the Indian government. Which is disturbing. Am I imagining it, or does everybody seem to be carefully hinting at the idea that this might have been a deliberate act by someone within the cockpit? Possibly the oddly unnamed copilot about whom all info seems to have been suppressed?

The Flight Safety Detectives. Former NTSB Senior Lead Investigators and in some cases Board Members, Greg Feith, Todd Curtiss or John Goglia have a new video up. Which is fast for them.

The Preliminary Report from the Indian Government Investigation is supposed to drop tomorrow. But still nobody knows nothing. Very hush hush. Of note is no actions or moves to action by Boeing (airplane manufacturer), GE (engine manufacturer) FAA or NTSB. Which there would be is there was a concern or thoughts regarding a technical issue with the aircraft. There is apparently a lot of quiet chatter about those fuel cutoff switches.

Also there remains absolutely no info on the First Officer. Beyond he had 1100 total flight hours. No name. No time in type. No training or education history. Note in North America you could not be in that seat with less than 1500 hours. (1400 with certain accredited programs. See the Endeavor flaming CRJ900 crash in Canada this past February for how well THAT works out.)

For those that don't recognize the names Greg John and Todd were all regulars on "Mayday" and "Air Crash Investigations". And can also be seen giving many NTSB Press Briefings from the 1970's through to the 2000's.

Something about this Air Pajeet Investigation is really waving red flags to them. They are not prone to hyperbolic speculation the way most Youtubers are.
