Check the happening thread on Lula's win on the 2022 election, BR Kiwis have been updating it with the happenings of the country since then.
The latest bullshit that happened that likely triggered Trump to push this is the IOF debacle.
Tl;Dr Government is stealing money at a rate so high that despite record tax collection we are still going broke, so they proposed a huge hike of the IOF. That is: a tax hike on all financial operations. This tax already exists BTW, but it is usually only done as 0,5% on exchanging real for foreign currency or on large (100k BRL plus) transfers
Naturally people said fuck no. Congress refused to pass. Lula and his Economics puppet tried again with a little less, reducing the increase and keeping some of the operations tax free like they are now and giving some operations smaller brackets. Still said no and the project died on the congress.
Except no. Because Lula had his Supreme Court just rule that actually Congress can't do that and the Court told Congress to "resume negotiations with the Ministry".
It's just the latest and most blatant case of the Judiciary taking over the country. Same judiciary is hounding Bolsonaro to arrest him, coercing false confessions out of former Bolsonaro staff by having them testify against and again behind closed doors until the testimony matches what is wanted. Or the time they unilaterally decided that companies like Fagbook and Xitter need to delete things that are "illegal" (a.k.a. the court doesn't like) on their plataforms BEFORE the court sends them a summons or be fined.
