UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

What short(ish) videos do people think are the best to peak people with the shit going on in our country with regards to immigration & pride shenanigans?

Basically been accused of being a racist homophobe by someone I'm close with (I'm genuinely not, I actually get on with anyone in real life) and need to get their blood boiling again.

Not going to lie, but we are so far past the "immigration is a right wing conspiracy" in terms of the overton window that if they don't agree with you now, they never will.

They do agree with me, or atleast did. They've had a bit of a bad time and embraced the whole yank 'peace and love' 'be kind' therapy shite. They definitely aren't un-savable, just need to realise again what it is I'm actually against.

It's one of the things that pisses me off. The average person on here could reasonably claim for PIP for some reason or another yet we persist and try our best and work jobs that crush us because we know it's better to be Nicolas (30 ans) and have at least the smallest bit of hope that things will work out, as opposed to being a dole scum lifer who will never accomplish anything of value and will die of a heart attack in a hoarders paradise aged 49.
I know a guy who had some health problems but was able to work who went down the PIP route and it’s fucking horrifying.

I’m keeping it vague as it wouldn’t surprise me if he lurks here, but I don’t recognise him anymore.

He went from a decent career to divorced NEET within a couple of years because the entire benefits system for disability is aimed at claimants pretending to be more and more disabled for a few extra quid and a bit less work. At one point they actually start believing.

That bright funny guy I was best friends with at university is now a weird husk of his former self working 16 hours a week at nonsense jobs he should be turning his nose up at for tax free weed money whilst the rest of us tax payers pick up all his bills.

It’s really fucking sad.

It should be for spackers only and anyone who says “but muh mental health” should be allowed to starve to stop this from happening.

You should be racist. It is ludicrous to suggest that all ethnicities are equal, and that we can all live together in some Disney happy-clappy wonderland. Peak lib-dem, never had to live around them thinking to believe that pakis and blacks wouldn't stab whitey in the back in a second to get themselves or their ethnic brothers ahead.

With PIP, it should be for the following: deaf, blind, physically injured e.g. cerebral palsy. Not autistic as its muddy but with the listed conditions they all are congenital or acquired but with stringent prelimary testing. Also, those groups are very small, respectively about 1% of the population or less. Make it English birth certificate and native, so no second-generation incest babies can claim it.

Also, because the conditions have hospital paperwork, you don't need to do much assessment, slashing a ton of costs.

With Abbott going from Labour, she will cleave some rebels away. Starmer is playing dangerously here because he is doing what he did with Corbyn originally but then he was an unknown and now he is hated. He thinks he has gotten away with the Afghan scandal but its nowhere near over.

That isn't racist. This is sort of my point. I don't hate people purely for the colour of their skin and anyone who does is a retard. I hold opinions against people (especially as a group) based on reality though.

Diane Abbotts finally been kicked out of Labour
You post this without an article? If I wasn't busy getting it I'd be looking for insulting images.

Scratch that, she's just been suspended. AGAIN. For the same reason as last time she was when people were saying she will be kicked out of the party.

MP Diane Abbott has been suspended by the Labour Party pending an investigation into comments she made about racism, the BBC understands.
The move also means that Abbott will sit as an independent MP, known as losing the whip.
Labour said it would not be commenting "while this investigation is ongoing".
It comes after Abbott said in a BBC interview: "I just think that it's silly to try and claim that racism which is about skin colour is the same as other types of racism."
She was speaking about a 2023 controversy, when she was suspended as a Labour MP for a year after comments she made about racism in a letter to a newspaper.
In that letter to the Observer newspaper, she wrote that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people "undoubtedly experience prejudice" that is "similar to racism".
She wrote: "It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice. But they are not all their lives subject to racism."
Abbott was quick to withdraw the remarks, which were heavily criticised by Jewish and Traveller groups, and apologised "for any anguish caused".
But she was suspended from the party and only re-admitted just before last year's general election.
Asked by the BBC's James Naughtie if she looked back on the whole incident with regret, she said: "No, not at all."

https://archive.ph/o/WSdZk/https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-69040616
She said: "Clearly, there must be a difference between racism which is about colour and other types of racism, because you can see a Traveller or a Jewish person walking down the street, you don't know.
"You don't know unless you stop to speak to them or you're in a meeting with them.
"But if you see a black person walking down the street, you see straight away that they're black. They are different types of racism."
She added: "I just think that it's silly to try and claim that racism which is about skin colour is the same as other types of racism."
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was asked if she was disappointed by the comments.
She told the Guardian newspaper that she was, adding: "There's no place for antisemitism in the Labour party, and obviously the Labour party has processes for that.
"Diane had reflected on how she'd put that article together, and said that 'was not supposed to be the version', and now to double down and say 'Well, actually I didn't mean that. I actually meant what I originally said', I think is a real challenge."
In her BBC interview, Abbott was asked if she would condemn antisemitic behaviour in the same way she would racist behaviour against someone because of the colour of their skin.
She replied: "Well of course, and I do get a bit weary of people trying to pin the antisemitic label on me because I've spent a lifetime fighting racism of all kinds and in particular fighting antisemitism, partly because of the nature of my constituency."
The Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP is the longest-serving female MP in the Commons, having entered Parliament in 1987.
She said she was "grateful" to be a Labour MP in the BBC interview, but that she was sure the party leadership had been "trying to get me out".
You fill me with much disappointment. Your claim was a thousand GB News headlines worth of nonsense. You bring dishonour to your cow.

If your reaction upon seeing a lightbulb-head, or a paki in full pajamas and sandals getup isn't disgust, you haven't been paying enough attention. And no, there are no good ones, sikhs are just as bad as the rest for building parallel societies and working against the host culture.

I mean yeah whatever. I didn't come in here for some sperg to jump on his soap box and go off on a tangent but by all means carry on.

Off you fuck then. If you're that worried about someone thinking you're a racist homophobe then you probably shouldn't be posting on notorious tranny-killing gang-stalker site Kiwi Farms.

One big problem is the world of work they are entering isn't great, Depressed Wages, Shit jobs, low potential for development,
Yeah, no kidding. I hadn't realised how bad it had got, but the other day my missus was looking at jobs in London. She was telling me about one at HMRC, the list of requirements was mental, like they expected you to arrest people, collect evidence, appear in court. I asked how much it paid - thirty grand a year?!? My first job out of uni over twenty years ago was thirty grand a year. And this is London, which you'd expect to pay a but of a premium. Wages have stagnated so badly over the last two decades, it's unreal.

You're trying too hard Geoff, I'm sure you are the most racist man who's ever lived and I'm honestly proud for you, but I just wanted some rage content man.
Sounds like the rage content is inside your own head tbh mate. As for this not being a racist website, you might want to type "nigger" into the search box fren, 8 pages of results just from today. If this is the sort of company you keep as a non-racist non-homophobe I can't imagine where you'd be posting if you did hate the coloured folk.

Ooooh you're so racist that you say nigger, wow, you must literally be HITLER

Anyway I'll not shit up the thread anymore with this pointless natter, you've outed yourself as a LARPer anyway.

You think the Civil Service is bad for that? Wait until I explain the shitstorm that is the Ministry of Justice.

You see, the Ministry of Justice (prisons, courts and probation) all used to be joined to the Civil Service years ago and everything was hunky dory. If public sector money went up you'd see the Ministry of Justice's money going up just like the Department for Work and Pensions or the Ministry of Defence or HMRC etc.

Then some government (can't remember which) decided it'd be cheaper to offload the prisons and probation to the private sector so created NOMS (idek what the fuck it stands for) which ran on people being paid fuck all for the some of the most dangerous work in the UK.

Then it was assimilated back into the civil service. The years of public sector pay rises? Not a thing. No catch up wages either. So now the MoJ is the department which pays some of the lowest wages in the UK for some of the most ridiculously stressful and outright dangerous work despite being apart of the Civil Service network which on paper means they should be adhering to workplace stress management etc.

Can't find any starting prison officer wages because I think they only do the training program twice a year, but a PSO (starter probation officer who can only see low and medium risk folks) is starting on £26k after 18 months of training. A prison officer working at Strangeways dealing with catagory A and B prisoners is on £33k per year. Imagine getting stabbed to death by a Muslim child sex offender on something like 25p per hour more than the minimum wage?
