In a shocking move, CBS is ending “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” next year, potentially exiting the late-night television business altogether.

The cancellation will take effect in May 2026, the normal end of the broadcast TV season, the network said.

The Thursday night announcement came just two weeks after the parent company of CBS, Paramount, settled a lawsuit lodged by President Trump against CBS News.

The settlement – and Paramount’s pending merger with Skydance Media – spurred speculation about Colbert’s future at CBS. Colbert, after all, is one of the staunchest critics of Trump on television.

CBS, however, said in a statement that “this is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Colbert shared the news at his show taping on Thursday afternoon.

“Next year will be our last season,” Colbert said as audible ‘boos’ were heard in the live studio audience. “The network will be ending our show in May,” he said. “It’s the end of ‘The Late Show’ on CBS,” he added, going on to say, “This is all just going away.”

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Colbert used to be funny (sometimes), but we live in a world that's beyond parody.
Jon Stewart Stuart Leibowitz unironically ruined everything for late night. Getting his dick sucked endlessly for doing the same bit every night until there was nothing else. Which is why litrul hack fraud Gutfeld beats them all in the ratings now

I still remember when he first got the late show gig how absolutely lauded Stephen colbert was, in less then a year all that good will and respect was flushed down the drain. Did trump do irreversible damage to his brain, did comedy central just have better writers, is modern leftist comedy just impossible, is he just a hack? I wonder if there's a world where he just said fuck it no politics, this a celebrity talk show not a news show and he's still respected. Well I guess all talk shows did the trump shit anyway, political or not.
You can take the biden out of the skibidi but you can't take the skibidi out of the corpate hack.
The Colbert we saw on the Colbert Report was just a character, and once he was no longer playing said character the real version of him popped out.

He also killed political discussion because people could just hide bullshit with satire and if they get called out on it they can just say "Oh it's just comedy bro don't you get it"?
Ugh.

"REPORTING IN

w/Stephan Colbert "

He'll have a beard or something.
That already happened in between the end of the Colbert Report and him getting the Late Show job. Coincidentally he looked a lot younger than how he looked when he shaved it off.

To quote from elsewhere:

‘The Late Show’ was the most-watched late-night show on broadcast TV in Q2, averaging 2.41M viewers, ahead of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ (1.77M) and ‘The Tonight Show’ (1.19M), per LateNighter. This comes just months after CBS announced it would stop programming the 12:30 a.m. slot.

The Internet, streaming, etc. has absolutely decimated traditional media

Those numbers are pathetic, and The Late Show was doing better in the ratings than the warmed over antics of Fallon and Kimmel. Could The Day of the Axe be coming for their shows too? Fingers crossed.

There’s only one way to save late night: Streaming with Mr. Beast.

It's really sad how faggots ran late night into the ground with their unwatchable gay politics. My parents loved the late show when letterman was hosting it and i remember watching a ton of it with them. (before going on to watch the superior late late show with Craig Ferguson afterwards.)

late night died in 2014.

There was a time when Steven Colbert was a funny guy. It was when he used to voice stuff on adult swim and did a very early version of the Colbert Report. Over the years watching him degrade into this... thing... was tough to watch. Can he heal? Probably not, I'm seeing a very Mark Hammel existence in his future.

In any case I blame my retarded generation for this whole debacle. Shame on you millennials.

Jimmy Kimmel is even worse in my opinion and he's been in quasi-hiatutis for a long time now. That dude needs to go. Get rid of John Stewart too. Who would've thought out of all these guys Bill Maher would end up being the most 'reasonable' in the end.
The sad thing is with Jon Stewart, when he's on, and not sucking leftist tranny propaganda, he's fucking ON. As piss-steeped as he is in leftist bullshit, I think him coming out with his unscripted rant about the Covid lab leak that made Colbert shit his pants live on air, was the first crack in the Covid narrative that actually allowed reason and opposing opinions to finally come through. Him calling out slave labor used by companies like Apple, while having a TV show on Apple TV, took some balls too. Jewish democratic shill or not, I'll give him some props.

Meanwhile, Colbert hasnt had an original thought in 20+ years, if he ever even did. He somehow managed to parlay his outdated conservative parody shtick from a bit part in The Daily Show into a full-blown career.

Yes.

To be fair, politics on late night shows isn't new. Dick Cavett had a late night show that was known for being political
that was a different beast to something like the late show or the tonight show. Dick Cavett ran a more serious show and you largely knew what you were getting into when watching it. It's more accurate to compare these current iterations to the Johnny Carson show. Very rarely did he get into politics and when he did he'd make fun of both sides. This was relatively standard in late night comedy until the most recent batch of hacks like Colbert, Myers and Kimmel. (and even then Kimmel didn't really start to become really insufferable till like 2015)
