You drink bottled water in my experience and have treated water trucked in to a tank at the house for things like washing clothes, though there could be "potable" central water if the town is big enough and there is enough government investment. There was piped water available where I was deployed in Iraq and even a water treatment plant. I'm sure the pipes weren't great, treatment plant wasn't operational much of the time, and the chlorine for it did got "stolen" to be used in half-assed chemical weapon car bombs, but the rudimentary equipment for centralized water did exist. The water utility did become more stable as attacks dropped and money was invested in infrastructure.

My paltoon's housing at our precinct inside the city had been an small B&B style hotel, so we had the rare luxury of a shower that ran off local water. We were warned not to open our eyes or mouths while we used it. The showers at our main base were often broken, so it was a blessing. One guy got concerning cellulitus, a bacterial skin infection, that just wouldn't go away. One of our docs finally had him breakdown everything he was doing to treat it only to find out he part of the routine was 2-3 showers a day when he had the time. This is the ONLY logical explanation I can think of for why Salah stays with her. There has been much speculation on this thread about it. Yeah, yeah, the money, but even Nader eventually realized that she's more trouble than she's worth, and she doesn't have nearly as much money to lavish on Salah as she lavished on Nader. AND! She's a lot fatter (and smellier given the polyester tarps she wears in hot desert heat). She has also become even more lazy and high-maintenance (even though that doesn't seem possible). I don't believe all of the theories, but I totally believe she threatened to expose Salah's misdeeds after he told her NOT to come to Syria.

Yup. It boils down to Chantal not wanting to be humiliated by Salah. That whole poop-gate episode was likely an awful, embarrassing experience for her. She keeps tabs on Salah solely because if he does cheat, it will get out and she'll be made the fool once again.

Chantal, if anything, is a very insecure person. Her whole life is a facade and has been since Day One. Just look at her relationship with Bibi. To anyone paying attention, they barely had any chemistry or connection. It was clear they didn't have feelings for each other anymore and were basically roommates.
