It's really amazing how a man can devote his life to covering the politics of a foreign country and still get it completely and utterly wrong. Yes, free speech actually DOES apply to blatant lies - at least in the US, the government has to meet a bar of strict scrutiny in order to stifle speech, which is why it tends to only be met by things like "imminent threats" (see:
Bradenburg v Ohio). Hell, as far as I know there aren't even federal laws against libel or slander - that's on a state-by-state basis and those still run afoul of 1A challenges!
In addition, I would LOVE to see Dev try to defend this position if the government were to jail people over saying that troons were actually women. It's a blatant falsehood, after all - but will Dev be able to see past his own mental FUPA and stand by his positions when his heckin' precious tranners are under fire?
What Dev is referring to here is likely the
Communist Control Act of 1954. Though it should be noted that the Supreme Court has found that it (unsurprisingly!) violates the First Amendment, specifically in the 1973 case
Blawis v Bolin. And unfortunately for Dev, I have absolutely seen members of the Communist Party on the ballot.
Since Dev is over here pushing abject falsehoods, maybe he should swallow his own medicine and have his own speech curtailed...

And this is how you know he's an absolute tourist when it comes to US politics. Presidents ALWAYS clean house when they get into power and install allies and loyalists to key positions, it just never makes the news because people only ever cared when Trump did it. Biden absolutely GUTTED Trump's appointees day 1 of his presidency - same with Obama and Bush's appointees. And the only modern president who didn't do it, as a show of good faith in an attempt to heal a country wracked with divisive hyper-partisan politics? The 45th, one Mr Donald J Trump. (This is not to get into long-entrenched bureaucrats who are woefully unfit for their positions - like Fauci, the guy who bungled not one, but TWO pandemic responses with the same shoddy science.)
In addition, I do not get how you could see the teardown of places like the DoE and the reduction of other assorted executive letter agencies as "dismantling limits on government power." If anything that seems like quite the opposite! If he's complaining that he's acting within the powers that Congress granted to the presidency, then maybe
Congress should do their fucking job in the first place and stop delegating their powers away to the executive branch.
The other shit is dumb because, yeah, Obama did and had all that too. The Obama cult of personality was strong enough to get Biden elected, after all, JUST from the name recognition of him being Obama's VP.
