So it probably wasn't about something specific that happened in December/January, but more about him recounting the events of recent months/years to the new woman and having her swoop in as a savior picking up the pieces for poor abused Danny.

People like him don't just leave relationships without having something new lined up (and every time he tried in the past, he failed). By the time he started pushing back, he was already thinking he had an alternative to coming back begging for a crumb of Bex's affection. When she responded to the pushback with BPDemon antics, he had everything he needed to emotionally distance himself.

I think you guys are exactly right that Daniel was exasperated by Becky being a useless miserable cunt even with constant placation by every means available. But with Sam, 40ish-year old Daniel has some greasy little twerp about 15 years his junior barging into his house, paying a tiny token of rent vs Daniel paying for a house full of misfit slob losers, and Sam immediately decides he should be calling the shots in House Cuck. This was implied in Becky's tweets when Sam had recently moved in.

That, I believe, is the moment Daniel started looking at his options. It's one thing to have a fat lazy pig "wife" laying about being useless. It's another thing when she brings some little shit into your house that starts immediately backtalking you. That's easy to believe as a "final straw".

I kinda think this exact thing is why she’s been getting increasingly more insane on social media. She’s ruminating and relitigating years old arguments, she’s been threatening to bubble over and “name and shame,” reaching out to his friends, naming their salaries, her stories getting more desperate with the bruise photos, posting sexualized photos of her daughter, creating medical emergencies out of thin air, getting blackout drunk and obviously making a giant embarrassing scene that had her vaguely conciliatory the next day etc. all this despite acknowledging the court risks.

Meanwhile Daniel has kept his mouth shut on social media, is planning vacations and outings with his new woman, and from the sounds of it already has his plans for when everyone is gone in two weeks. Becky has been running that “he threatened to sue me” into the ground like she’s daring him to escalate.
