The modern justice system is deeply unsatisfying and discomforting spiritually and psychologically to victims, putting a violent or repugnant offender away out of sight and out of mind for a duration only to snap your fingers and say
"You're a normal citizen again! Go on, get outta here you crazy toddler stabbing diamond!" when the time is up is just putting the next stabbing or raping on layaway/preorder to the community.
PL: I've had to deal with paperwork and bullshit red tape navigation for people who have chronic health problems and complications due to injuries in a past occupation or two, some of them being directly the result of surviving assaults or attempted murders and essentially
NONE of them feel safe or at ease no matter the sentence time given to their attackers, the fact they're still alive and able to come around again to finish the job is an additional lifelong psychological torment, and it's inflicted to them by the state.
I fully believe in my heart that punishments were softened across the board over time because rich and powerful people with paper trails and skeletons in their closets, on top of having a gaggle of shitty criminal nephews and kids themselves would see quick justice dealt and their first thought was
"That could have been me!"
So we've devolved into having what amounts to stay-in apartment vacations where the more money you have the less like a prison it feels thanks to commissary and being able to make outside purchases and having internet access.
And it's what we slowly built up to because of shit scared white collar criminal middle classers and upper crusters who don't have to live in knife fight alley themselves.
So anything that makes things easier for criminal dregs and harder for the plebs will never reach them so it's a whole load of not their problem.
That and on the worse end, the fully intentional demoralization effect it causes, because demoralized people won't push back as hard and are easier to cattle wrangle, there's no way in hell it's just a coincidence that the test bed of stupid criminal coddling victim punishing bullshit that we call Sweden happens to give you a comfy little homey apartment for murdering women in the park and at the same time the same government and system does everything in it's power to ruin your life if you called the guy stabbing women in the park a mean name on facebook.
That is 100% by design.
