Most people tolerate faggotry because of the extremely successful media push to clean up fags.
And that is exactly why victory was the worst thing to ever happen to the gay rights movement. Once they won, once the powers that be started to simp for them (or even pretended to), they no longer had their "underdog" facade to hide behind.
Especially because it was via brute force via the courts, first in California in the late aughts, then again federally in 2015, not via anything even remotely resembling democracy. Since then, the gays were no longer "oppressed," no matter how much they pretended otherwise. Whatever stranglehold on the discourse they gained during the 1990s-2010s has been lost in the years since then.
Only by making homosexuality mainstream and normalized could we finally get to the point where we can judge the whole thing on its own merits: just because it's considered "normal" now doesn't make it any less repulsive and disgusting, and all the negative traits about homosexuality that were pointed out in numerous studies back then (coming out of the closet at earlier and earlier ages results in higher suicide rates, homosexuality is highly co-morbid with antisocial behavior and even worse paraphilias, high SDI infection rate, over-representation amongst sex offenders, significant reduction in quality of life that cannot possibly be explained by external forces like societal homophobia, etc) or even casual observation (compulsive need to groom children, social contagion, etc) still hold true even decades later.
It's also becoming plainer that the gay rights movement opened up the floodgates for the normalization of other unhealthy lifestyles (not even just sexual lifestyles or transgenderism, also including things like gluttony in the form of the "body positivity" movement), because it was the gay rights movement that pushed the meme that people are "born that way" and therefore moral agency is a myth and we can't expect people to be better and rise above their base instincts.
The whole thing has also thoroughly destroyed the shitlib and lolbertarian argument of "But how does it affect you personally? Just let people do what they want!" It's proven to us, the hard way, that we absolutely have a good reason to care about the moral and spiritual health of society, and why we are perfectly justified in "legislating morality." We have every reason to care, because these people insist on shitting where everyone else eats, and we have the right to crack down on that shit, as brutally as we have to.
Tolerance for the gays hinged on them not shitting all over the place and them being true to their word that it wouldn't affect the rest of us. It took half a decade for them to break that promise. It took a very short time from 2015 for that social experiment to fail miserably and prove to the rest of us why human society throughout the ages refused to recognize gay "marriage" or any concept of "gay rights."
