A 16-year-old track athlete was killed during a championship meet Wednesday morning in Texas by a member of another team, officials said.

Frisco Police confirmed the student-athlete died "despite lifesaving measures." The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.

A student from Frisco Memorial was the victim, according to local reports. Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco wrote in an email obtained by Fox News Digital that Austin Metcalf, a junior at the school, had died Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium at the University Interscholasic League's District 11-5A championship meet. Anthony attends Frisco Centennial, roughly 7 miles away from Frisco Memorial.

According to the Frisco Independent School District, the meet was suspended shortly after the incident. The ISD added that the stadium "was immediately secured, and students were released and sent back to their home campus on FISD buses with expediency."

In her email, Fesco said the school "will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day," adding counselors would be available.

"As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates," Fesco wrote. "This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings."

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said in a statement. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

Metcalf, who also played football at the school, participated in both the boys shot put and discus events earlier in the day, with threw distances of 39 feet, 9¾ inches and 86 feet, 4 inches, respectively.

Anthony ran the boys' 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and was scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Eight schools competed at the meet, according to MileSplit.

The only things I've ever seen of this guy is him saying Kanye West is right not to be racist against white people because white people aren't the ones making gangs and ruining black youth and also him calling his son and saying he loves him (in a video making fun of a gangster rapper whose son was killed, saying the dad is a hypocrite for promoting that life but not being ready to accept its consequences).

The people pushing this, and a lot of people who are supporting Karmelo just straight up hate white people; there's nothing that they won't blindly believe or pretend to "believe" and repeat if it means that they can attack Metcalf (and by extension, white people.) Trying to paint the former as a modern day Rosa Parks who wuz just tryna live as a BUUUUH-LACK boy in a white man's world is the smarter way of them trying to justify it as a lot of people are primed to accept the narrative of whites oppressing blacks while tying it to one of America's sacred historical moments.

The recent "Karmelo was being bullied for his Godzilla dong" thing is just a straight up humiliation (of Metcalf, and by extension white people) tactic to turn things into more of a farce; give it a few weeks and a narrative of "Metcalf and his brother were actually plotting to attack poor Karmelo because all of the white girls couldn't stop talking about wanting to take a spin on the great bull of Frisco" will be the new thing.

Quick update: There was noise a while ago about the family leaving Frisco and relocating to Louisiana, which apparently didn't happen. A possible reason: Drew Anthony, Karfelon's father, has a bench warrant out for him there (idiot blew off a mandatory court appearance in connection with an illegal equipment charge on his car). His LA driver's license is unsurprisingly suspended, and he also has three theft charges on his record. Next, Karfelon has added a new attorney to his team (a very expensive new attorney) who coincidentally has worked closely in the past with the DA handling the case.

A gag order was issued Monday in the Karmelo Anthony murder case, according to Collin County court records.

A gag order is typically issued in criminal cases to prevent parties in the case, such as lawyers or witnesses, from speaking about the case publicly. The terms of the order were not known as of Tuesday evening.

A protective order was also filed Tuesday, according to court records. The details of that order were also not known Tuesday evening.

The Next Generation Action Network, which has previously spoken of behalf of the Anthony family, issued a statement Tuesday urging the gag order be respected.

“While our organization is not a party to the legal proceedings and has not been sworn into court, we fully support the underlying intent of the court’s order to protect the integrity of this very sensitive and highly visible case,“ the statement read. “We understand the importance of respecting the judicial process, and we have maintained that commitment throughout publicly stating at every press conference that we would not speak on legal specifics or speculate on the defense.”

The filings come after Frisco ISD received a subpoena last week asking the district to provide the court with a list of students who attended the April 2 track meet where Austin Metcalf, 17, was fatally stabbed.

Frisco ISD was asked to provide the full names, dates of birth, addresses, parents’ names and contact information for all Memorial High School student athletes who attended the meet, the district said in a letter sent to parents.

According to a Frisco police arrest report, Anthony, then 17 and a student at Frisco Centennial High School, was confronted by Metcalf over being in the wrong school’s tent during a weather delay at the track meet. Metcalf was a student at Frisco Memorial High School.

Anthony told police he stabbed Metcalf with a knife after Metcalf touched him, the report said. Witness statements to police differed between describing either a push or a shove before the fatal stabbing.

The case has garnered national media attention. Online discourse relating to the case has unfolded largely along racial lines, which included a “Protect White America” protest that took place at the site of the stabbing. Metcalf was white, Anthony is Black.

Police have not indicated race played a factor in the case, and Metcalf’s father has previously rebuked a leader of the “Protect White America” protest, telling him he was creating a racial divide.

Both the Metcalf and Anthony families have been the subject of harassment since Metcalf’s killing. Anthony’s parents said at a news conference that they have faced racial harassment and threats, while the Metcalfs have been the target of multiple “swatting” calls.

Anthony is currently set to stand trial in Frisco’s 296th District Court on June 1, 2026.

I don't think the defendant acting like a retard can trigger a mistrial, otherwise nigs will have a surefire plan to avoid conviction. I think this is the court trying to help the defendant by mandating he shuts up before he shoots himself in the foot even more.
