This may come to a shock to you, but the Ukrainians did not want to be rolled over. Same thing with the Polish by a former KGB agent who has a Soviet fetish and is repeatedly mentioned how he wants to recreate the Soviet Union. Repeatedly in speeches and thinks that Ukraine is filled with National Socialists, and he's not wrong on that one. But that's more the fault that the Ukrainian government is pathetic and the only people holding the lines were Ukrainian ultra nationalists in the 2014 invasion of Ukraine by Russian backed paramilitaries.
