Honestly, I think you could make an argument that the Republic would have broken a part sooner or later and Palps turning it into the Empire prevented less deaths in the long run.

Humans, perhaps. But please don’t forget that the Emperor hated aliens and committed genocide on various alien species. Coruscant became almost entirely humans. This was a big factor that helped the Rebellion as several well-off alien planets defected to the Rebellion, most notably Mon Calamari.

Also remember that what we see in the Original Trilogy takes place two decades after the Empire was founded. By that point, any benefits the Core Worlds received had evaporated and there was no nuance to be found.
