King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

That GH/Cotton flashback sequence of how much of a "beta" Hank is was very unexpected. It was a surprise we got to see a couple of past scenes with Cotton, very reminiscent of the first season, where they showed him in flashbacks in Hank's childhood life Perhaps we see more of those scenes with Hank and GH, since he is his father's kid (in a sense, he reminds me of ww2 era cotton)

Just revving up the new season. The pilot was a bit cringe with them referencing the cultural shift since the last season but I'm really enjoying it now that every other line isn't about Uber or hybrids
I've decided I'm fully on board with the show. One part I haven't fully enjoyed is how Dale seems to be written by someone that had his character explained to them instead of someone that enjoyed the original run

Non ethical monogamy is just fancy current day words for whore. Like, I can imagine someone like Connie using progressive-speak to justify her bad behavior because that's why current day progressive liberal women her age do. That's basically what her whole language is.
You're all are selling well the show for me. I'm gonna try to watch it this week later.

They have Uber, food delivery/dating apps/ the internet and all that shit in Saudi Arabi so I'm not sure why Hank is so confused.

It has a standard of living comparable to Western nations.
Speaking of confused, there's more Black people in this one season than the entirely of King of the Hill.

Second Episode. The pattern so far for me is the episodes are middle of the road, but one part will not click, and that part is what stands out to me.

The fight with Peggy felt so forced. Did Hank not bring up Peggy’s struggles because he was talking to a couple where the wife had the same issue(s)? Hank has never breastfed or been a woman with a UTI.
This didn’t feel like the appropriate lead up to an argument about Hank not being willing to share things, so he uses Peggy.

The whole thing felt off.

My soul died a little bit when I heard the term "non ethical monogamy" in a KOTH episode.
I'm at that episode right now. So, it's basically, Connie and Chang are "together" but they willingly let each other fuck other people.

What's the goddamn point?

"I bet Black Barbershop Peggy would've gotten that job at the community college."
"Because, she's Black?"
"No, Hank!"

Now you see, that was actually an interesting idea and a wasted opportunity in the episode. That should have been the episodes plot. We didn't need the stupid masculinity coaching seminar thing. Have Hank trying to bond with GH and coming to realize he is heading down the same vile personality path that their dad went down. Hank by the end of the episode could make GH realize he is heading down the wrong path in life. Hank would also come to the realization that he needs to step up a little bit more as a father figure for GH since he is his only real male relative. It could have ended with both of them being happy with each other and looking forward to spending more time together.

Speaking of GH, did anyone else catch that he is way too old for this season? He comes across as being a teenager in that episode, but by time he should have only been about eight or nine years old. Bobby was only twelve when he was born, and he is 21 in the new season.

Was probably retconned at the last minute, as it wouldn't have made less sense to have kept GH as a kid while his nephew is more than twice his age. Aging him up as a teen rather than a kid would probably make the whole bonding with Hank make much more sense, so he won't go down the same path and fate as their father.

There are so many things wrong with the continuity of this time jump.

Alright, I'm about halfway through episode 6.
  1. Dale's voice is so jarring and completely off the mark that it makes the show borderline unwatchable for me.
  2. The writing is extremely mediocre at best. I could write some long winded treatise as to why, but it's so mediocre I don't even want to put in the effort.

Knowing Asian cultures that is probably even more offensive to them if they are even offended at all.
There was that movie in the 2010's with the MIT undergraduates that were counting cards based on something that actually happened, except they were all Chinese not white. They asked the actual MIT Professor and he said something like "I don't care that they made them all white, it's better than making them Korean or Japanese." I'll try to find the original quote.

Edit: Found it - Ma, who is Chinese American, told USA Today, "I would have been a lot more insulted if they had chosen someone who was Japanese or Korean, just to have an Asian playing me."

I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I don't see how that would fit Connie's personality.
