tl;dr: It is unlikely you'll be laid off, but you might need to be ready for reduced or no paycheck for a couple weeks. If you aren't a retard with money, that shouldn't be an issue.

It depends. Are you are a Fed, A Federal contractor, or are employed by a federal contract?

If you are Fed, you're fine (unless the mass beheadings actually start)

If you are a Federal contractor (that is, you are are paid directly by the federal government but are officially employed by another entity) that will be down to the term of your employment contract. You are very likely paid through October though. And even if the shut down last longer than that its highly likely you'll be returned to full employment once the taps turn back on.

If you are a employee of a federal contract, that is you are employed and paid (benefits) by a non-federal entity even if you do all/most your work for federal agencies, that will come down to the terms of the contract your employer made. Very likely they are pre-funded for the year, however the Federal entity you do your work for may request that services are suspended/contractors furloughed.
For example, if you sling hash a federal prison you are likely completely fine.
If you work in the CIA's cafeteria, you might be told you are having your hours cut back, or you might get told to stay at home and not get paid.
Man I wish I worked in a CIA cafeteria that sounds cool. I'm imagine a bunch of spies having High school style lunch.

until we figure out a permanent solution to "how do we unfuck healthcare costs?"
Democrats had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pass a public option under Obama, which would have alleviated this issue, but they squandered their political capital appeasing moderates in their party. Moreover, they consistently lose elections because they would rather play clientelism with progressive interest groups that are more focused on identity politics than solving actual problems. A solution is never going to come from them because there's no incentive for them to fix a problem that benefits them politically.

There are, of course, temporary solutions that can alleviate the mess, but those are often nuanced and can be state-dependent. Democrats could work with Republicans on some of the regulatory issues that raise healthcare costs, such as congressional caps on the supply of doctors, stop the FDA from blocking generic drugs, regulations that force price transparency for healthcare providers, and even occupational license reforms that increase the supply of healthcare providers. Again, they have to recognize the political situation they’re in and work within that framework. Doing something that hurts our long-term credit ratings. that we rely to pay our bills, isn't the way to go about it.

If the Republicans were united on this issue the bill would pass the house and Senate without a single Democrat vote needed.
No? If every Republican voted for this it would not be able to break the Democrat's filibuster and pass. Republicans do not have a super majority which means outside of a very few select circumstances means they need some Democrats to cross the aisle in order to end some other Democrat's filibuster.

To illustrate this, more Democrats were willing to vote yes on this than Republicans no and it still didn't pass the Senate because you need 60 votes to break a filibuster.

Okay serious question, zero sarcasm: With how the Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House, how is it possible to blame the Democrats?
Good question and a common one that people misunderstand about the American system and power dynamics in general.

It takes a supermajority to avert a shutdown. A supermajority is 60 votes, not 51 like you might expect.

Since Republicans will all vote to avoid the shutdown, the onus falls on the Democrats to make up the remaining vote count; therefore, despite having a majority, Republicans effectively have no power in this situation. The outcome is determined by the Democrats who have the swing votes.

This principle is also why people like Joe Manchin were called "the most powerful person in Washington"; if you have the deciding votes, you have the power.

Yeah Maxine Waters thinks the Dems demands includes healthcare for illegals. Maybe she's a dumbass, but we really don't know what they are demanding behind closed doors.

Honestly I think that is one of their priorities, given their recent history of complete open borders politics.

Also the fact that any other time they have some shit they wanna accuse the right of blocking they dump full details of what they'd proposed well before to get ahead of the spin. Instead this time dems are only parroting the "Republicans shut down the government" gaslighting with zero insight on what the proposed changes were from them, it screams that it's something they know even their own base will take issue with at least somewhat.

If you think about it, their lobbyists and donos are pushing this. American hospitals are forced to take anyone and everyone in emergency. If illegals don’t have taxpayer funded healthcare and insurance, who is going to reimburse hospitals and doctors? Who is going to birth and fund their anchor babies?

That being said, lolberts like Rand and Massie are also virtue-signaling retards that, combined with McConnell and their governor, have convinced me that Kentucky is a lost cause.

Doesn't DC have a whole short term loan industry where these government workers can get loans that let them live comfortably for a while and they pay them back when they get their backpay? What happens if they take out those loans then get fired with no backpay?
Chaos and violence in the streets.

...

Eh... probably a bunch of funny posts on X. Then silence. Sweet silence.
