Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Moomins is actually swedish. It's just that the most famous version of it, the one you're probably thinking of, was an anime. It's got that sailor moon syndrome, the liminal vhs aesthetic.

I think Rebecca Sugar actually isn't a bad choice for Moomins, mostly because the series is about being light and quaint, which suits the tone of her art I think.

Although personally I'd rather have Nick Cross, the art director of Over the Garden Wall take a crack at it. Him or Felix Colgrave.
It's actually finnish you retarded nigger. That is all.

Just heard about moomins...Tove was a 3 dimensional person who could have a character based on her lesbian partner (Too Ticky) and still just make a good story with no ulterior motive.

Sugar is a cartoonishly silly dyke who will not be able to help herself from making Snufkin gay, Snif trans, and little my a bulldyke lesbo. Im ofc exaggerating but there will be a lot of gay shit shoehorned in that nobody but smelly 13 year old fujos (her main demographic) asked for, its just what Sugar does.

I'm fucking devastated by this

Forgive me oh Stinky, I looked up Tove Jannson and saw she was swedish.
The Finns already have a chip on their shoulder regarding their notoriety in the world. Calling a beloved author and her series Swedish is just cruel. They still hold on to Nokia as a point of pride.

Basically this. The original books and illustrations are gold (as well as the rest of Tove’s art) and the 90s series captured the spirit of them very well. Both were beautiful depictions of how Finland was before blacks and both were a huge part of my childhood. I don’t usually care about children’s media but I’m not going to lie, this is making me really sad.

Glad this doc. is still up...

My problem with the design is the hair. She’s supposed to be a mechanic who works around machines.
Why the FUCK would you have long ass hair that could get tangled into the machinery???? Look at any mechanic design and you’ll see that all of them have short or tied up hair.

I’m really tempted to do a clean up redesign because her current look is not a good design to end on.
I know I made her slimmer but Dana's proportions are so weird for her humans. They're so close to proportional but not close enough.

You rant a lot about that she-freak's face, but I would also argue that her clothing attire looks like attempting to cosplay as Tidus and failing at that. In other words, she dresses badly and oddly.

That's very nice actually, my compliments. I like the goggles, even tho eyewear is Andi's thing. But Andi sucks so who cares. I think my only complaint is that she has a bit too much of an hourglass figure for an unskilled grease monkey lol.

I originally mistook the ankle complaints for people not understanding that her overalls weren't formfitting, but now compared to yours she just does have very thin ankles despite her stocky body. Maybe she's got the star fox prosthetics

I dunno maybe it's a stylistic thing.
There's a famous design choice that Doug Tenaple talked about with Earthworm Jim, which is that skinny legs make for much more readable and expressive walk cycles.
You can see it with Jim he has incredibly massive arms but also twiggy legs that have a lot of character. Maybe that's what they were going for.

"WAAAAAH, THE STEVEN UNIVERSE WOMAN IS WORKING ON SOMETHING MOOMIN-RELATED! I'M SO FUCKING ANGRY AND DEVASTATED BECAUSE SHE'S TOTALLY GONNA DESTROY THE FRANCHISE WITH GAYS AND TROONS! THIS IS LITERALLY THE DOWNFALL OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION!"

God, you guys are a bunch of whiny bitches. Rebecca Sugar is literally just doing one movie. It's not like she's making a full-on show, and it's certainly not going to replace older versions of Moomin. The franchise has had literally dozens of adaptations over the years, and you're more than free to go watch any of those. Stop with this "my childhood is being raped" shit. I swear some of you find the most retarded things to complain about.

In other news that doesn't involve me bitching about other people's bitching, Warner Bros. released a new Peanuts Blu-ray collection today in order to commemorate the franchise's 75th anniversary. It contains almost all of the TV specials from 1965-2011, with only five of them being omitted (Snoopy: The Musical, It's the Girl in the Red Truck Charlie Brown, You're in the Super Bowl Charlie Brown, It Was My Best Birthday Ever Charlie Brown, and It's the Pied Piper Charlie Brown). Given how significant the Peanuts are to animation history, I'm surprised they didn't do a set like this sooner instead of just releasing the major specials over and over again, while the more obscure ones were relegated to VHS until now. Better late than never, I guess.

And if that's not enough, they've also announced a new Tom & Jerry Blu-ray collection that will be released in December. It's set to contain all of the Hanna-Barbera shorts, including the two banned shorts (Mouse Cleaning and Casanova Cat) and the uncut version of His Mouse Friday. Twelve of the shorts will also feature brand new transfers, and there will be a bonus disc containing over three hours of special features. It's nice to finally see a definitive Blu-ray set of Tom and Jerry after Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the Golden Collection series (ironically because they were so hesitant about releasing the banned shorts). Guess this means I can throw out my old Spotlight Collection DVDs.

i don't have any particular lasting affection for homestuck but i winced at "ANIMATED PILOT BY VIVZIEPOP" regardless. i agree it's not something to go nuts about, but it does make you wonder to what degree your suspicions will be correct.

The FreedomToons guy is trying to fund a five episode anthology if you guys wanna kick in a few bucks over at Give Send Go. 1st ep. is already made.
