Cause it's bad PR to just let them drown in the Mediterranean or to pull up barbed wire fences all around Europe. That's literally it. Everything else is just fancy words.

There's nothing wrong with offering help to those in need, but the EU is standing by idly while their borders cease to exist and their good will is exploited by those that have absolutely no intention of adhering to any social norm or show even a modicum of gratitude - and a sickeningly large part of society is very vocal about being apologetic shitstains. Additionally, politicians don't have enough spine to actually do anything about this, cause that might actually fuck up their image. It's much easier to coast along, not doing anything substantial.

Honestly, it pisses me off when the EU tries to throw its weight around like this. Why do they have the right to make other countries take in migrants they don't want to take? Why should other countries be forced to accommodate these people when Germany is the one who opened the floodgates?

And honestly, Eastern European countries have every right to say "No thanks" to immigration quotas. Thanks to decades of Communist rule they're still very much lagging behind Western European countries. Sweden and Germany have the luxury of being ~humanitarian superpowers~, but Poland and Hungary don't. And the last I heard, very few of these new refugees/migrants actually contribute to the workforce, so there's no benefit for Poland and Hungary taking them in.

And I know people are gonna shriek "THEY'RE REFUGEES, YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM!!!", but once again, Eastern European countries are struggling to take care of their own. They don't have the luxury of housing and caring for tens to hundreds of thousands of foreigners who, in all likelihood, aren't going to do much to repay them.

Because the EU isn't a democracy. There's no real mechanism to push back against it. So they really can do whatever they want. Fucked up by doing a policy that a handful of countries wanted? Sorry, but you're in this with us and we pay you, so do what we want.

There's also the fact that migrants don't want to be in Hungary and Poland. They want the free shit that Germany, France and Sweden give them. They have no interest in staying there (same with Italy). Some 60% of poles are opposed to taking economic migrants and like 92% are opposed to having them live there permanently. They aren't really refugees, since refugees usually go back once the war is over. The poles do not want this and they are naturally wary of big blocs that don't care about their interests. Which is why there was an initiative to form their own 'Eastern EU' since much of them have things in common from the Soviet Era, much moreso than mainstream Europe.

The EU has been emboldened since the French election, but it seems content to just not do anything about the refugee issue other than keep accepting them under their increasingly creaky social safety net while their tourism plummets. I don't know if Poland can economically afford to leave the EU, but I bet its people will prefer sanctions. Nobody wants trucks of peace and ISIS members in their country.
