I suppose Jakes never considered that cultivating the tabboo status of such jokes actually empowers them and makes it's usage more likely for shock value. I wonder if Metokur (the "trolling collective") had anything to do with Something Awful. I knew a guy who started off being an internet edgy man on Metokur, mostly over anime being gay/the fans being awful to try and make up for the fact that he was (still is) super into yaoi. He later registered SA as "TelevisedInsanity" and completely failed to appeal to the Let's Play forum. At one point Retsupurae tore apart one of his videos.

Hbomb being part of that group is so fucking telling though and is further proof that people who get really into social justice culture tend to have internet pasts they're ashamed of.

The troll group in question was actually METOKUR. Dinner Dates wasn't a trolling group, it was a failed Let's Play channel on Youtube that Habermann started around the time METOKUR disbanded. hbomberguy was involved in both METOKUR and Dinner Dates.
