I had until last week the most gorgeous, elegant deerhound lurcher called Lyra. I had to put her in rescue...my marriage broke up last year, and we moved from a big house in the country to a tiny one bed flat with no garden. I've worked for rescues for 10 yrs, rehabilitating abused and aggressive dogs and taking in pups that lost their mums and needed constant contact and care, so it was not a decision made lightly. Luckily for me, and a testament to how wonderful she is, her fosterer wants to keep her, and has been texting me updates and lovely pics of her looking very happy! Some gorgeous pets in this thread...made me smile to see such loved pets despite my own sadness!

So here's my dachshund, Maximus (generally just called Max)

He's a clingy little fucker, though. He cannot bear to not have attention at all times. He's getting on in years, so his back (as tends to happen with his breed) is not very good at all. I think he sees the cat doing acrobatics left and right so he tries to make jumps he really shouldn't do.

Rocky is the same way. He Also gets seizures from time to time. He's a great dog, very mellow, and very loyal. He loves to just chill on my lap for hours.

I just had to euthanize my betta and have been bawling like a baby ever since. He had been battling multiple maladies for a few weeks and today his swim bladder broke. He couldn't get upright to draw oxygen from the air and was swimming sideways. Eventually he fell to the gravel and rested there, gills flaring for oxygen. Lacking any proper pharmaceuticals for a euthanasia I used a very small metal cup wrapped with tinfoil to induce a freezing water. He died quicker than asphyxiation that would have been and even though he was a fish I miss him already.

My poor baby GEC died today, I took him out of his shell for burial and saw he had mites all over him so I had to do a super crazy clean up to get rid of the mites and I gave all the other crabs a salt water bath to get rid of the mites.

It's weird. I scroll up a little and my happy, healthy, ALIVE dog is there. Now she's not. RIP Taylor. You were the best dog.

My parent's cat Alfie:

He's a handsome devil, and sprightly for his fourteen years.
He usually won't sit still for more than two seconds to have his photo taken, so this is a rarity.
My cat, Simon, doesn't even really come home any more. He eats the food I put out, but I never see him. I think he may be jealous of the rabbit.

More pics of the cat, Pook, or Fat Kitty as I call her. She isn't friendly and barely tolerates most people because of the way her last owner neglected her, but she and I have an understanding and I am very fond of her. We're trying to rehome her and the other cat, Lemur, because we can't have pets in the new place without a huge damage deposit we can't afford. I'm gonna miss her.

Showing her belly and looking adorable in the sun on 'her' chair. I wanted to tickle her little belly but I value my life.

Incidentally, anybody in the DC Metro/Baltimore area who is interested in adopting a cat, PM me.

This is Minerva, three years old ish. She mellowed out completely after the surgery - used to be completely vicious and people hating. Likes to rub her face against everything and everyone.

Our three month old ish raccoon, Rex. Wasn't given to us weaned. Is very annoying, but also pretty funny cuz of how incredibly stupid he is. Likes to climb up onto places he can't get down from
dombalombe - Copy.png
Dimbil/Domcat/CrombCromb/Dombalombe/ADIMBDIMB/Crombwell/Dimbit/Decimus. Minerva's son, almost a year old. He's very skittish but also very friendly - he comes to me when I whistle, and is completely addicted to cat treats. He tries to rip the box open and bites me to get them.

Our newest kitten, ion, or Joe. He is Dimbil's half brother, about two months old. Extremely skittish, hates the raccoon with a purple passion. Likes to jump on Minerva and Dimbil's heads.
