I'm actually okay with excessive taxes on vices. It's maybe the only tax that can actually be justified, because it helps the people who are being taxed.

If we're going to tax people for working (?!?!?!) and pay them for not working (!!!!!!) we can at least tax them for a few things that should be disincentivized.

Young people already don’t drink as much for a variety of reasons. If you never force yourself to develop the taste, alcohol tastes disgusting and you’ll never enjoy it later in life. The market for alcohol is slowly shrinking.

Yup. In Vegas it used to be so bad they had local MSM reporter-critters doing stories about some of the local "professional beggars" who'd set up shop each day on a given off-ramp on I-15 on the various Vegas Strip exits and rake in upwards of $500 per day. They'd get dropped off each morning by their spouses (in very nice upper-trim luxury SUVs) and picked up by the same later in the day. Fuckers were pulling in $100k+ annually, tax free.

It only ever got any "official" attention because of the press coverage, and cops finally started chasing them off when they saw them. So now they just do the "panhandle on a random intersection center medians at the turn lanes on red arrows" thing that's also super-common in Florida. It's (a bit) more walking and effort since they make more money pacing back & forth (and they can't just squat in a single spot in easy handout range without risking getting run over), but they still come pretty close to the same income as before.

Fucking beggars living better than working people.

This is actually true. Alcohol sales are going down and sellers are pretty sure the issue is weed.

Which is horrifying as good alcohol is infinitely more classy.

Alcohol has almost no flavor at all. If your palate is oriented more toward savory flavors, then a good hefeweizen is just plain good.
