And yet there seem to be a lot of people who can't imagine going out... really anywhere alone. Whether it's a restaurant, a movie, the zoo... I've constantly seen (granted on reddit and tumblr among those neurotics) people asking if it's okay to go those places by themselves.

I'd be willing to bet that before this demented chick blew up her life with hormones she was one of those types who always had to have her besties/boyfriend/etc. with her to do anything. And now that she's isolated herself due to being a freak who made everybody uncomfortable until they drifted away, she's encountering being on her own for the first time ever and can't stand herself.

Side note to any kiwis who feel the same: I’ve worked at movie theaters, restaurants, ballpark concessions, all that shit. The most any of us on crew commented about people being alone was that they must be there to really take in the event or their meal instead of someone yapping. It’s cool and normal. I love going to the movies by myself.
