I'd honestly say most fetishes stem from people looking up to "heroic" or "iconic" moments in their childhood and are a lot more prevalent since the rise of cartoons. A good example is that weird blueberry inflation shit which, to my knowledge, completely stemmed from that one scene from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Or the ridiculous number of hypnotism fetishes caused by that snake Kaa. Or the generation of furries created by Disney's Robin Hood.

If someone could actually explain how fetishes are created, they'd be lining up to collect their nobel prize, not shitposting on a cyberbullying forum.

Even though research claims that porn is normally harmless, I can see some getting into issues like you describe, which can be detrimental to one's life and relationships.

That said, as far as a fetish isn't detrimental to one's life overall, and doesn't really harm anyone else, it shouldn't be an issue.

well I can tell you that sometimes a fetish is just pure enjoyment of a thing. those would be your more standard ones I think.

like bdsm- one person just enjoys control, one person likes not having to be in charge. there's fun there that's not related to trauma or anything unpleasant. even stuff that hurts could be enjoyable for some- hell I know if I have a blister, I'm gonna enjoy popping and wrapping it up. that'll hurt, but it's a good kind of hurt.

Fetishes. Let's be honest, most people don't give a shit about them but it gets kind of interesting when people devout their whole life to that one thing that gets their socks off. And it gets even more interesting from a psychoanalyst perspective because We still don't know where fetishes come from or why people even have them; especially ones that are completely fucked up.

I mean theirs likeing feet, and then there's making yourself so fat until your immobilised or getting chopped into little pieces or getting fucked by daddy.

What are your thoughts? Do fetishes mess up a person or are fucked up people just drawn towards fucked up things and telling everyone about it? Where do they even come from?

Not sure, I'm not an expert but I think psychologically the development of 'fetishes' is similar to other types of addictions, at least in the psychological aspects; smoking for example is physically addictive but is also psychologically addictive (allegedly smoking resembles comforting memories of suckling a mother's teat or a pacifier as a baby, which is why nicotine replacement alone doesn't cure the craving).

Supposedly fetishes and obsessions might be related to 'magical thinking', or the mind associating some 'quasi-magical' significance to a specific object, activity, body part.

As far as why specific fetishes develop, I'm not sure; might be related to memories of childhood security or something.

I think that breast fetishism, at least taken to an abnormal extreme (e.x. breasts the size of elephant testicles that you see in a fair amount of hentai porn) might be related to unresolved Oedipal tendencies; the obsession with breasts which are abnormal sizes that don't even exist in real life, is likely related to comforting memories of when one used to suckle their mom's teat as an infant.

And my day-to-day observations are that guys who are momma's boys or 'beta males' tend to be fixated specifically on boobs moreso than other guys on average (e.x. as opposed to ass or legs).
