Given this started out "innocent" I want to assume the author has some sort of mental condition that makes him akin to a toddler. He wants the smurfs to be real, and after finding out he cannot get a response out of them, because they're fictional, he starts harming them (by proxy). Not only is this a more "successful" way to get a response out of something, but it also makes them more "real", they're not safe from the thralls of reality like in their cartoon. To summarize, this is the whole forum's sick way to make smurfs more "real". It's the same reason sonicfags and bronies write dark fanfics.
