Rowling Derangement Syndrome - "TERF/Woke Author Bad!!1"

That's right, after the land acknowledgement (I can't believe they're still doing that shit) they warn abbos that some of the actors (or people from real footage) in this 60 year old film about child predators might have died since 1964.
There's a reason for that. It's stupid but it has a reason.

Some Aboriginal Australian beliefs basically state that the deceased must not have their name spoken, or visage seen, as it can interrupt the spirit's journey to the afterlife. They even go as far as to use substitute words for the desceased's name, and avoid speaking words similar to that name too.

That's what I figured, but it's absurd to center some primitive religious belief on your website that has nothing to do with it, especially since this particular belief is obviously going to be a concern from a website dedicated to archiving film.

So, I just learned of a new drama involving JKR well new to me. Jill Bearup did a video today on Romance Con and Enchantment Con.

Romance Con is apparently a Con to meet your favorite Romance Authors and one of the authors was some broad named Julia Soto she's written a few books and the one from last year did well. Her books are apparently fan fics she wrote that she turned into novels kind of like how 50 Shades of Grey was a Twilight Fan Fic originally. Well, her recent book was originally Hermione and Draco fan fic she wrote. So, since her book was once Harry Potter fan fic the Troon Patrol wanted her cancelled. Now remember she turned them into original characters JK gets no money and she has come out against Rowlings views, and she was still dumped by the Con and other authors apparently dropped out either to protest her being invited or being dropped unsure which. To add another layer the con was being handled by some company that was started by Potter fans, so the company was dropped too.

That company also had a Potter Con named Leaky Con after the name of the OG Potter Board and that con is now Enchantment Con and Troons want that cancelled too even though the people in charge of the event planning company have said they don't support JK.

Also, through this video I learned at another one of these types of cons called Sinners and Stardust a man dressed like a character from some book was mobbed by women who proceed to sexual assault him on the con floor by putting their hands down his pants and grabbing his dick and this wasn't one or two women this was a mob of women. If this shit happened at Comic-Con and it was a female cosplayer being groped by a mob of sweaty nerds, you damn well know this would have been national if not international fucking news.

Here's the video that better explains all of this

I love Rowling Derangement drama that happens in the fanfic world. You have one camp that thinks the borderline plagiarism is moral and ideal since it somehow takes money from Rowling and the other camp that takes an absolutist guilt by association and wants to shun people like the Amish do.

If you want to follow the drama, most of it is centering around these two draco/hermione fanfics that were recently published as traditional novels once the Harry Potter elements were sanded off:
-Alchemised (originally called Manacles) by SenLinYu
-Rose in Chains (originally called The Auction) by Julie Soto

It's funny to me that Soto catches way more flack in terms of Rowling Derangement. It could be because SenLinYu is a theyfab so they leave her alone?

I looked up the info on these two books and I regret it. How depressing that a lazy abuse and torture fanfic is now on the best seller list as a 'romance' novel. I love me some edge and I have a high tolerance for weirdness and violence, but the type of fiction young women are consuming en masse these days just makes me really sad. 'He raped me until I loved him' type stories used to be mocked in fan circles...

I read them both for my gal pal's informal book club (the things I do for friendship) and...yeah. Rose In Chains is a very basic bodice ripper. Alchemised is at least more grounded and realistic about the "dark romance" elements and the plot is less about them but, yeah. This kind of pulp has been around forever, it's just currently trendy for whatever reason.

Both really suffer from the fanfic>trad publishing issue of nearly non-existent characterization and world building. If you can't figure out the Harry Potter character someone is based on then they could really be replaced with a scarecrow and nothing would change.

Report back with hilarious details about this and all will be forgiven.
Sadly, I very likely will not be stirring up drama.
I've known M for 20+ years and the girls 10+, they're good people. Maybe I'll post the full details later if I think it's worth reading.
F1 is kind of a stealth UberFeminist, very well read, but will not really show it in public. F2 is a very nice, funny girl but ehh, sorry I have to say she's more like a garden variety sjw, danger hair and not nearly as smart as F1. M is there for the ride essentially (He's my OG of all time, but not important here)

edit again: I've been abroad and haven't chatted with the girls in a LONG time.
So, I'm kind of eagerly wondering if Joanne is Hitler 2.0 over there. I'm like 60/40 that F1 would NOT be on board with this shit (edit :troonacy) but we all know life is stranger than fiction.
I don't want to start a fight but if I'M confronted about this (they know of my chuddy inclination NOT actual PL) I'll probably just feign drunkenness and say something like:
"I don't know! It doesn't affect me at all, but tricking kids into killing themselves is top tier trolling, I'm impressed!:christine:"

There's also the fact that, presumably, a lot more people have gotten Harry Potter Tattoos than their balls chopped off, so in flat rather than per-capita terms, it's hardly surprising.

I wonder if the amount of people who regret them merely because they got them as teens and think they're embarrassing now is enough to clinch that statistic on its own, putting aside all the idpol shit.
I mean, how many things did you love when you were a teenager that you cringe at now? The tattoo removal industry is probably 50% based on that (the other half is failed relationships).

I just think that if you’re already on the Internet, you’re far enough into modern society that you’ve seen images of people who are dead. Movies, paintings, even banknotes.

The fact that she's Asian probably also helps. In a lot of leftist communities Asians are almost as hated as whites (in some corners I saw #StopAsianHate treated as an anti-black dogwhistle), but the lit world seems to be an exception to that based on all the Asian women I've seen elevated over the last 10 years. Perhaps it's yet another field that Asians naturally excel in, but based on the output I see from the modern lit community in general I'm skeptical that anyone rises high in those circles based on merit.

Good point - the move from POC as the preferred language to BIPOC as well. Oppression is a very exclusive club.

Thread tax; look who's malding on BlueSky:

I don't think it's merit, at least based on the number of books I've DNF'd. At this point, I just don't buy any books by Asian Americans* published within the past ~10 years**. It's pretty much guaranteed to be a waste of money and time. Nowadays, traditional publishers will print anything as long as they can slap an Asian surname on the cover and it includes some half-assed references to an exotic foreign culture (diversity win!). I used to read a ton of fiction by Asian women, but I had to stop because the number of said books skyrocketed and the quality took a noticeable nosedive. Also, a ton of them started identifying as nonbinary, because I guess Asians aren't oppressed enough.

*Asian authors are fine as long as they're not American.
**Lisa See is an exception to the rule because she's been publishing forever and all of her books are really well-researched.

They announced like an hour ago at the Game Awards that Hogwarts Legacy is free on the Epic games store from now until Dec 18, and apparently so many people are trying to download it at once that it's crashing their servers. Xitter is half trannies seething and half people freaking out that they can't claim a copy. I'm screenshotting the troon cope before I go to bed and will post tomorrow if someone doesn't ninja me.

Now Harry Potter's part of the main Fortnite Battle Royale Map, so trannies can't even play the main Battle Royale mode without pitching a fit over Rowling.
Fortnite just officially confirmed this is indeed happening directly on the official Fortnite account.

I expect to see some intense salt in the replies and quote tweets. I encourage people to click the Twitter link for themselves and screenshot their favorites.

EDIT: Turns out this ties into the free Epic version of Hogwarts Legacy. If you rack up two hours of playtime (which you can currently grab for yourself by clicking this link), it'll award you the chocolate frog for Fortnite.

Good news and bad news: The skins were announced last night. Bad news, they’re not actually skins of Harry and friends, they’re a set of customizable Hogwarts student skins instead. Theoretically you can get them looking pretty close to whoever you want, at least, with glasses you’ve basically got the below example looking a lot like Harry to begin with.

The louder of the two in relation to the fortnite collab...

You know what I’m not seeing? An actual boycott. Someone who already quit is meaningless. Someone who isn’t playing now but will play again is meaningless. No indication that any of the people reacting negatively will actually stop giving the company their money.

It’s the perfect demonstration of the power of troon protest, i.e. nonexistent. These are not people who will put themselves to any inconvenience or even forego the slightest luxury. You can totally afford to upset them.
