Buzz Aldrin, 95, has 'no family' by his side as he withers away in his own filth.

Buzz Aldrin has been "abandoned" and "dying" in his bed all alone.

The 95-year-old astronaut's longtime friend Steve Barber has spoken out exclusively to RadarOnline.com after seeing the "horrific" state of Aldrin's living conditions during a recent visit.

Buzz Aldrin, 95, is 'dying in his bed' all alone, according to a friend. 'It's about the saddest thing I have ever seen,' said Steve Barber

In a photo exclusively provided to Radar, the ailing space hero could be seen staring blankly inside of his dingy Los Angeles apartment, as he received oxygen support through his nose.

Aldrin, wearing a NASA T-shirt, appeared in a daze while bedridden and leaning over on a small pillow.

There was a table beside the elderly star, allowing him to reach over for a beverage or snack because he's said to be unable to move.

"He's literally just laying in a room by himself," Barber, whose known Aldrin since 2004 and visioned the Apollo 11 monument in 2018, told Radar.

Buzz Aldrin's friend claimed he's been 'abandoned' by his family.

"This is not the way that this man should be spending the last seconds of his life."

Barber admitted none of his pal's children are by his side and all the company he receives is an on-call nurse as he rapidly declines in his "horrible little apartment" following his wife Anca Faur's tragic death at age 66 earlier this year.

"There's no family, there's nothing. It's about the saddest thing I've ever seen," Barber said.

"This is not how the second man on the moon should leave the Earth for the last time. He's [part of] the first freaking crew to the moon. He could die today in that situation and that would just be horrific."

Barber noted this is especially true after President Donald Trump's signing of an executive order on December 18 calling for America's return to the moon by 2028.

Buzz Aldrin's close friend Steve Barber is concerned for his well-being, seen here in better times. He said the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission had been abandoned by his family.

Describing his recent visit, Barber added: "He was so disheveled about Anca. He was so sad. He goes, 'Look, I'm just so sad. I miss her so much.' And, for her credit, she took care of him the last 10 years. The reason he's still alive is because of her. She did a good job there. But she's gone. I just can't even imagine the sorrow and the pain that he's in right now. And there's no family. His family doesn't help him."

Barber insisted the ailing astronaut shouldn't have to spend his final days "living in his own filth" after all he's contributed to society.

"It looks like a college kid's apartment. There's stuff stacked up everywhere. It's just not good," he said.

"This guy should be in the nicest assisted living that's possible to mankind. He was on the first mission to another world. He's literally a national treasure. It's just not fair."

Steve Barber, who used to be Buzz Aldrin's chauffeur, said the former astronaut, aeronautical engineer and fighter pilot 'doesn't deserve to die like this.'

What's more, Barber warned, time is ticking, describing Aldrin as being "at the end" of his life.

He added: "There's all kinds of pills and stuff that he's taking. He's almost 96. I'm assuming mostly everything is failing."

"The apartment is disgusting. I was just appalled," said Barber, who tried to contact Aldrin's son after deeming the situation emergent.

"I called his son, and he's like 'look that’s the life he wanted to live. He can just stay there.' He wanted nothing to do with me, didn’t care about the situation and didn’t want to help,'" the documentary filmmaker explained before shedding light on the status of Aldrin's relationship with his three kids: James, Janice and Andrew.

"He has children, but they do nothing, and they've never done anything. They sued him. They took away all of his money, a few years ago," Barber added, referencing a 2018 legal dispute in which Andrew and Janice filed for guardianship.

At the time, Buzz's kids had claimed their father declined cognitively, however, the aeronautical engineer denied suffering a mental setback and sued his children for slander and financial misuse. James was not involved in the heated court battle.

"When they sued him seven years ago, when they shut him out of his bank account, I was just appalled. This is the guy that created you," Barber said.

While Barber alleged Buzz's offspring are "not kind people," he acknowledged the dad-of-three remains "very protective of them."

Feeling hopeless, Barber noted: "But I'm not family. I don't have power of attorney. I can't go in there and pick him up.

"I've got a guy down in San Diego who's a multimillionaire that would send a limo and we would get him in a nice place today. He's a very dear friend and has been working with Buzz for 30 years. He too is concerned.

"I've got a circle of friends who have all known him. We're all concerned, but what can we do? We're not family."

Buzz Aldrin Is 'Screwed Up' After Wife Anca Faur's Tragic Death

Buzz Aldrin's wife, Anca Faur, died at age 66 in October. 'He's so screwed up because his wife died,' Barber said.

Barber believes things took a turn for the worse after the former fighter pilot's late wife died on October 28 at age 66 after privately battling an aggressive form of cancer.

"He's so screwed up because his wife died," he said, alerting how Buzz is dying of a broken heart. "He's not well."

Despite his declining health and poor mental state, Buzz surprisingly recognized his pal Steve during their recent visit.

Recalled his friend: "He knew who I was and he said, 'I just miss Anca, I just miss her so bad.' His health has deteriorated pretty ferociously the past couple of years. When he hit 95 it really kind of fell, and then when she died [it got worse].

"He sleeps until about three, four in the afternoon. They got him up. He was on a walker. But I was there an hour before he was able to get up and see me. His cognitive abilities that day were OK, but not great. We took some pictures and hung out and had a meal. But I would say he's not in any sort functional. He can't get up. He can't drive, he can't walk. He needs help."

Buzz Aldrin has been 'abandoned' by his children, according to pal Steve Barber.

Barber, who said he has "berated" Buzz's kids for the way they've treated their dad, added: "His children have abandoned him. I want to get him out of there."

After speaking with one of Buzz's sons, Barber claimed he was told: "This is the way my dad wanted to live. This was his choice. He can live in it."

Barber recalled responding: "I'm like, are you kidding me? [Anca is] gone. You need to get on a plane and come take care of your father."

But there was "no interest," he sadly shared. "There's not a lot of love lost between father and son here."

Radar attempted to contact Buzz's children for comment but did not receive a response at time of publication.

You act like we don’t see people who get tons of money throw it away just as easily. My guess Buzz wasn’t the savviest financial guy especially as he got on in years. Who knows what his money situation is now. Who knows if he is even able to care at this point.
If that's the case, I have even less sympathy for him.
How the fuck do you make 10 figures and waste it?
You have to be a complete retard.
The legal trouble ended when his kids gave up, he's still loaded and could be taken care of in total comfort by live in staff if he wanted. The fact he isn't just lends credence to his son's "he chose this" statement.
Exactly.

You have to be a complete retard.
It’s more common for people to do that than not especially if they do not have a the right people directing them how to guard their windfall for the future. I am not an expert in Buzz personally but of the other Apollo astronauts he seems the most like a sports star who made it big than the others. And there’s plenty of those who went from riches to rags. But it’s all speculation so blah.

Moon hoax niggers never explain why the USSR, China and assorted enemies of the USA just don't expose the fake landing to BTFO the Great Satan...
I've mentioned this to one and they had no idea how to respond. Since this person isn't an old lady macing shithead like a certain Genesis soundchip enjoyer, I just agree to disagree since it has no impact on either of our lives at this point.

Anyway, I hope the Tang hater gets better end of life care. Fuck Tang!

Aldrin always had a bit of a prickly personality. I can't imagine it's improved with age, particularly at this point. When NASA was figuring out who was going to go down the Apollo 11 ladder first, they did not want Buzz to be that person.

That being said, this is the tragedy of intra-family squabbles. You can't do shit without power of attorney or some kind of court-mandated intervention.

Also, moon landing deniers are niggerfaggots.

So, is this his punishment for spilling the beans here and there about what's really up there?
I seem to recall reports that in the past ten years or so he has drastically changed into now being chatty about some more fringe ideas about space travel, forget if it was mars pyramids or moon landing denial or space thots or what

Did he publish pictures of the apartment anywhere? Because if you end up in home care/hospice, your house is going to be piled up with stuff. The amount of medical doodads is incredible for somebody in this condition, and nobody has the energy to neatly tuck things away or dig them out.

You can't do shit without power of attorney or some kind of court-mandated intervention.
This.

For everyone saying "Well, if it were my Dad...." ? You have obviously never had to deal with a stubborn and in-denial relative who needs assisted living, or needs to write up a will or at least designate a person with power-of-attorney over bills and such should they be incapacitated, but fights it with lawyers because they dont' want to confront their own mortality.

A good friend wouldn’t immediately run to the press. Aldrin has said he drank. An alcoholic father dying alone after alienating his children by his own behavior is a tale as old as time. Sounds like this guy wants his 15 minutes. I would never photograph a dying friend and leak those photos to the press. That is the opposite of allowing your friend his dignity.

You see this a lot. One partner, usually but not always the Wife dies, and she’s been keeping the husband alive for years. Even more so when the wife is quite a bit younger but does before her time. Was the same with gene Hackman and I have more than one old couple around me at the moment where as soon as the wife is incapacitated the his and is going to be incapable of independent living.

Frankly idgaf if you think the moon landings were fake, almost no human being should live like this in their last days of life. OK, some people deserve it, but Aldrin is a US Air Force vet, that much IS true, and this is how our country treats the men who saved us from some pretty fucking evil hombres. And then there are the less famous who simply rot in gutters in Hollywood. It's fucking horrible. Also, whenever somebody tells a childfree kiwi like me "but who will take care of you when you're old?" feel free to throw this story in their face. Aldrin has three kids and they simply don't fucking care. Having a kid doesn't mean the kid will be a good person.

An actual friend would help instead of exposing such a humiliating situation. And elderly people can be a nightmare to deal with because they become literal retards — the mind of a child in an adult's body — and have zero self-awareness. I'm sorry for what he's going through but I can't really blame his children for washing their hands clean off this.

Buzz Aldrin said a lot of things, and guess what? they were all 100% true, he's infallible. if he says his kids are trying to fuck him over, i don't care what others say. clearly he's telling the truth. I don't care about your conspiracy theory level evidence bucko
, so I think he may have had some issues.
wrong bucko. if he had issues why didn't the USSR, China, and his enemies reveal them? like every other man with 5 failed marriages, nothing he did caused them and he isn't responsible for the marriages ending like that
When a person is treated terribly by everyone in their life, it calls into question whether they themselves are not terrible.
this is one step from you going "its karma for faking the moon landing!"
They claimed he was getting dementia and he claimed they were trying to get his money. I am unsure who was correct.
its pretty obvious you side with the guy who landed on the moon

Long time married couples, when one dies, the other usually the other follow soon after more time then not.

I have the power of attorney for my father, but soon the old man going to have to go to assisted living. He difficult to deal with, because like Aldrin there was nothing he could not do. The man was borderline superhuman. He get mad when I tell him, like Joe Biden he has lost 40%, the difference was Biden close to average.

The legal trouble ended when his kids gave up, he's still loaded and could be taken care of in total comfort by live in staff if he wanted. The fact he isn't just lends credence to his son's "he chose this" statement.

They were clearly right about his mental decline, this fate happens all the time to people who don't get their affairs in order before they're to far gone to distinguish the help of family from grifters like the guy they quoted in this article.
I mean to a certain extent yes. Buzz definitely qualifies for care by Department of Veterans Affairs, such as it is. Hes a retired Brigadier General with two distinguished service crosses. He can pick any VA facility in the country, including the good ones.

I feel like we are missing a whole bunch of the story.

As for "net worth", I bet a good chunk of that is just owning some property in LA.

This.

Any stubborn relative, really. They'll pursue self destructive paths because they're convinced they know better than everyone else, even when its consistently not working out, while increasingly blaming everything around them rather than themselves and their own choices. At a certain point, you gotta accept that they don't want real help, just enablement, and separate yourself from the situation.

I really wonder about the wife in this story. The article says she was Aldrin's carer while also 'privately battling an aggressive form of cancer'. Who knows how much she had to suffer in her final years, by herself, while being the sole carer for her famous husband.

I think of how much of a blow grief is to young healthy people, and how it can knock them around and leave them almost bedridden for a while. Then you add old age to that.

I'm sure it was hard, but I'm also sure they had money, at least some of it. She had her own career and at least some wealth before they married. "Arranging care" probably meant delegating nurse schedules, not physically caring for him herself.

At least from the picture, he is not unkempt and neglected. His hair and beard are clean, trimmed, and combed. He has a defined biceps. He doesn't seem to be as unaware as Jimmy Carter was in his last days. If he's broke, it's probably because guys like the interviewee scammed him and is now guilting the kids to drop everything and bail Daddy out. By the way, Aldrin is Silent Generation and the kids are Boomers.

It’s been a couple of years, but a friend used to live in the same Wilshire Boulevard luxury high-rise building as Aldrin. He was very visible and extroverted. Nothing dingy about his living situation unless shit went completely off the rails when his wife died this year.

Spouses usually bite the dust after a spouse dies.
Queen Elizabeth survived her husband only by a little over a year. George Bush Sr passed away about 7 months after his wife.
