Yea under her parka mei is pretty average-sized, not overweight but not skinny either. There's nothing in-game that really suggests it, it's mostly in the concept art but it was enough to start a salt monsoon.

Depends what one would call 'average' but she's kinda chubby? Slightly. Still, it's just some chub, it doesn't make her an absolute landwhale like how tumblr draws her.

from what i recall people got real salty over this little outfit and said that her being skinny was a "glitch", an "accident", pretty much having the denial meter pulled up to 11

Notice how plague Knight looks pretty much unchanged aside from his hands (I'm pretty sure he's actually traced from the official render actually used in game) while Mona, Plague Knight's cute and attractive love interest is drawn as an emanciated junky in drag. It really does seem like these tumblrites only change the designs of these female characters because seeing a pretty girl who puts effort into her appearance makes it harder for them to look at the aesthetically challenged slob they see in the mirror

She isn't even that skinny though. While she isn't the landwhale that Tumblr portrays her as, she does seem to be somewhat curvy.
