Note To Everyone: Never, ever mix strong uppers and downers at the same time. Don't let anyone you care about do it either, if you want them to stay alive.
Your internal regulatory system gets conflicting messages and as a result you can see a complete cardiovascular collapse, your heart stops and you go into cardiogenic shock, and/or you go into neuroregulatory failure where you slip into a coma. I have actually seen it happen in a perfectly healthy, fit teenager where he fell through a plate glass window at a construction site, had a nasty laceration about 4-5 inches in length on his forearm, bleeding, but not profusely. He was given conscious sedation so his arm could be sewn up, and because of all the adrenaline in his system from the accident, combined with the sedating agent, he went into sudden cardiac arrest, then cardiogenic shock and after 45 minutes they still couldn't get him back. He was pronounced dead.
In the above instance, in a controlled medical environment, it is an extremely rare outcome, but it is possible. For people taking strong uppers and downers out partying, the chances of sudden death skyrocket. If you've ever heard of someone who was young, healthy and partying where they suddenly died and there was no definitive answer on what happened to them, but they had a bunch of crap in their system, this is likely exactly what occurred. It's not something you will see on autopsy or imaging because it isn't a structural issue, it's a regulatory systems failure, that doesn't show up on either.
In this instance, I saw the follow up video of them carrying him out, he will likely make it and be just fine. He still had muscle tone, which means he wasn't unconscious, stopped breathing, or had his heart stop. He's lucky he got to the hospital when he did, if he took 1, 4 BD, he could have easily slipped into a coma and died.
If he had a seizure, that is likely a good indication he was on GHB, or 1,4 BD, it will cause seizures because it acts on the GHB receptor (yes, GHB actually has its own receptor in the brain because it is actually a substance we have in our brains in very small quantities for very important neuroregulatory purposes).
Also, uppers and downers are not all created equal. It's not just one lever for each and you have to balance them out. There are many, many uppers and downers, and they impact the body in myriad ways. If I wanted to just list the types and classes of uppers and downers it would take pages, and then dozens more just to explain how they all work, not even including how they all interact together (many interactions we don't even know because no one is stupid enough to try them). Adding one kind of upper to one kind of downer does not necessarily make them balance out, it could end up making a bad situation much, much worse. He's lucky that moron didn't give him the Adderall, If he had taken that there is a decent chance it might have killed him.
So Narcan is like those charcoal pills but a temporary thing until you can get actually medical attention?
They don't work the same way, Narcan directly counteracts the opiates the body already absorbed, but only for about 30 minutes, at the most, so if you don't get them to a hospital in 30 minutes, they will start to OD again. The charcoal pills stop the shit in the stomach from being absorbed into the blood stream where it will make a bad problem worse. They are 2 ways of treating the same problem. They are complementary.
