If you're starting out with "no need to look deeply into it, basic intuition tells you...", I think you're already heading down the wrong path. A lot of things in real life play out very counterintuitively.
I don't think it was staged because Trump would never agree to that. Whatever the details are, there was someone shooting at a crowd of people, and someone actually got killed. How could Trump be sure he wouldn't be the one getting shot? He would put his life in the hands of some schizo? Or was there a second shooter Trump would trust with his life? I don't see it.

Anyway, this is the flag that was used. If you look at the photos, you'll see several angles. The famous one had the camera pointing upwards, towards him. The photographer was spamming shots while this happened.
The camera he was using was the Sony a1 (I'm pretty sure), that thing does 30fps stills.
(Not video, actual high resolution images at 30 a second.)
The camera was able to capture the bullet at 1/8000 shutter speed, he got lucky with that shot.
It's definitely not staged and the fat kid diddling orange shit definitely took full advantage of this. If only, anyway. When I saw that happened, I was shocked and quite disgusted, and then I calmed down and deleted my resignation letter. I was planning to quit my day job and start something myself in the same field.
