In a rural area its usually easier to get a job with degree and some family connections.And even if - she would have years-long hole in her resume, I doubt it'd be so easy to find work again in an environment where your CV determines your worth as a person.
If you were talking cut-throat corpo job hunting, then yeah, gap in the resume is deadly. But she would be looking for something entry level and in the area anyway, so it really would not be that big of an issue.
Company owners usually understand what it is like to have kids, only the childless HR Karens running corporate America do not.
But you make a good point, I am looking at it from the perspective of a respectable human who wants to be better - not from the perspective of a prescription drug zombie who just wants to ERP with Star Trek fans.
