In a rural area its usually easier to get a job with degree and some family connections.
If you were talking cut-throat corpo job hunting, then yeah, gap in the resume is deadly. But she would be looking for something entry level and in the area anyway, so it really would not be that big of an issue.

Company owners usually understand what it is like to have kids, only the childless HR Karens running corporate America do not.

But you make a good point, I am looking at it from the perspective of a respectable human who wants to be better - not from the perspective of a prescription drug zombie who just wants to ERP with Star Trek fans.

Let's compare ratwife to April.
April noped out, arguably a monkeybranch to a lower branch but more normal in every way, made peace with alienated family and was welcomed back, settled down and got a normal job to help with bills but nothing too stressful. The NDA payoff became a nest egg for a new life.
Ratwife is an slut, always was a slut, is a gold digger too stupid to work out a better deal, a junkie, covered in worse tattoos than April, and is looking like an actual nonhuman fairy tale monster.
And despite the NDA and April obviously wanting to put it behind her, and her new guy explaining forcefully to Rekieta that Rekieta needs to fuck off and keep fucking off or he can expect to get splatted, all while Rekieta despite being taller than the real man literally shakes "with anger" (fear) Rekieta is still pushing his luck and trying his best to get April supporters off side to add to his legion of enemies.

April ended up EXACTLY where she desired: divorced and in the second home. What fucked things up for her and Nick is Aaron's divorce lawyer, Casey Kolb. When Aaron initiated divorce proceedings, Nick put it in April's head that she was gonna fleece him; she eventually got diddly squat (some appliances, a TV, Aaron claimed she stole $5000 from their joint account). Aaron refusing to go ahead with purchasing the 2nd house also set Nick back financially (he'd remortgaged an already paid-for house and spent himself into full-on drug addiction).

It's late 2023, Nick's superchat $$$ 📉, his Rumble contract went kaput,........ In hindsight, one can interpret the real reason for the Qover as Nick trying to recoup some money via enticing the Imholtes into buying that 2nd home while not giving a shit if their marriage collapses (I think Kayla even pitched an idyllic scene with them as one happy, close-knit 'family' with 8 kids and 4 prarents). He and Kayla used their only 'talent' - sexual degeneracy - to sell the idea that the Imholtes literally buy into the lifestyle with the 2nd house.

What's especially evil is that when shit hit the fan and they got arrested, instead of being real with April to tell her to go back to Litchfield because the Qover project was over, he kept feeding her hopium for months that it will all be fine and they'll be a happy couple, he essentially had her locked away like a winter coat in summer, atrophying, (mostly) lonely in the house. Eventually the placeholder had to be evicted and shipped off because the situation was untenable.

The degree is now a basic qualification requirement. Used to be that a college degree was "special", now it is a mass produced writ that any retard can get by throwing money at an exploitative education system/grift.

Connections is what gets you into the door, but not being a retard is still a requirement. (And funnily enough, that is what non-specialized college degrees are these days, proof that you aren't a total retard)
