I feel Talk To Staff is a bit too stuffy for some people feeling comfortable asking small or simple questions to moderators, and I also believe there could be some more levity between staff and users.

Try to avoid using this to interrogate about moderation decisions, like "Why was I banned?" since that's something that genuinely should be handled in Talk To Staff. Threads posted there will be treated with more urgency and seriousness. Generally.

Use this thread to ask us questions, serious or not, and we'll answer them accordingly to whimsy.

Just wanted to make sure because it seems odd on several levels.
Kiwifarms does not tend to ban things it is not obligated to ban by law. In my view, articles in A&N are fair use because of pages upon pages upon pages of commentary about the article and the subject therein. Likewise, if an article is reposted outside of A&N it probably is as a collection of larger speech. For example, take two Russia war happenings threads. If you repost an article of, well, lets say Estonia agreeing to let Ukraine fly drones through its territory (though, as a general matter, strictly factual things receive a lesser copyright protection), in lets say, Pro-Russia thread, then three things are evident:
  1. Firstly, the audience for that article and the audience for the thread are completely different.
  2. It is likely accompanied by speech denouncing such Estonian agreement and talking about how bad it is
  3. It becomes a part of a larger anti-NATO/anti-Ukraine topic that runs hundreds of pages.
When I post an article in or outside of A&N, I do so with the understanding that I alone am responsible for that post and that I believe it is fair use.

Why are mods so fucking lame?

What is the difference between a normal highlight and a purple one?IMG_0365.jpegIMG_0364.jpeg

Does the top left quote doohicky actually read from random_text or is that a manual update, and if it is manual, how often is it updated?

Green highlights are automatically applied based on sticker reactions (and can shift) whereas purple highlights were postmarked by a user with T&H (and manually approved by a mod). There's a longer description of the autohighlights somewhere, but I think basically it tries to do a certain number every few pages, so it's about reaction score relative to other posts nearby in the thread.

Since you are a T&Hfag, note that it is very helpful to highlight posts, but they are NOT just a "superlike" for posts you want people to see, they should only be used for posts important to understanding the "plot" of a thread, so that users who use "next highlight" to scan through a thread won't miss anything important to understanding the thread. Null will yell at you if you highlight bullshit.

Do you mean top right? Is it different on mobile? Also you mean the random_text thread? It does not just automatically pull stuff from the thread, Null manually adds quotes.

Has anyone ever reported my avatar? I used to get DMs from weirdos about it all the time, some who were seemingly deeply offended by it, and then… others.
Speaking of avatars, I have a question for @Useful_Mistake.

Who's the cartoon lady with the crazy eyes? And before I comment on her appearance, how old is she in whatever lore she's from? She looks 30.
