no it isn't as much TTRPG. Tho I cannot play it due too my dyscalculia , I Find it interesting. I Just think their is a key difference between these faggots who are slaves to the critical role podcast dynamic on E5 and run games for hours short of snorting lines of cocaine through their nose and doing the other usual stuff like magic and other theater kid stuff, their just seems to be a dynamic with these freaks who focus their lives entirely on MP no matter which form it takes irl or not

(and for the record, minis and TTRPG's are my only multiplayer experiences but except for the few times I host an open game at the local store, those games are with a curated group of other salty old bastards like moi.)

Magic , Fifth Edition DnD , obsessively playing MP games or VR simulator , writing stories on Wattpad, Basically your average millennial activity , some sort of dissociative fever dream of needing to be around the same level of faggotry as yourself. correct others whenever possible and be an annoying faggot about basically everything esp tech advice and avoid politics while saying it's racially insensitive to kill certain enemies in games and fill a broad band set of views that are apathetic to the subject but make it clear your against anything that isn't within your breadtube or atleast npc mindset way of thinking.

I Generally consider theater kid stuff and it's adjacent hobbies those who are zombies too MP no matter irl , on a game server or on vr , they require a constant dopamine drip and are normally violent antifa styled people who hate anyone who isn't like them. it's a life style , the steam profile , the username , the car anime bumperstickers. I mean ig another way of saying it is your average reddit user who just shrugs and says "idk man I don't use social media" yes you do , we all know what you use

M:TG? Not sure how that's theater kid stuff since it's...well, a card game. Don't get me wrong, it contains plenty of blobs of protien that you wonder how they ever got sentience, but that's an odd pick for the label. Or maybe your beef is with, as you said, the skinner box of collectable games in the first place. Again, you're not wrong to slag on them, just an odd choice of labels.

5E? I don't think it was so much made for them as much as it just attracted them anyway and as you mentioned, those fuckers at CR and a lot of other TTRPG streamers (there's a few that aren't so bad) elevated it to that status.

Gaming's a big part of my life, and my minis hobby helps keep me sane, but emphasis on PART. The moment you make any one thing your entire identity, your face begins to yearn for the bitch slap when talking among people who can act like civilized human beings.

was more just saying people become slaves to things like discord , MMOs , Call of duty etc etc etc. it's the idea you get a dopamine drip and you start losing touch with reality. I still have alot of my dads old dnd books (I actually collected them before they got expensive) but the difference between me and my brother is I'll meet people outside of my comfort zone if that makes sense. not just sit in the matrix forever

I think I'm getting your gist better now, actually.

And yea, it makes perfect sense, though these days you really do have to do a lot of vetting and curating on your circle of people. The net's been cast so wide that a whole lot of boots get mixed in with the fish.

I Just watched a video for example where someone in his other videos morale-fagged about ICE and was maymaying about the warcrimes in Call of duty because ig "lolz warcimez" and the guy was clearly some breadtuber fag lite. he made jokes about school shootings in the video but somehow pussied at showing no russian calling it "distasteful" and basically after a full dissertation of moralfagging outright says he's too much of a pussy since he's worried he won't be able to no longer show adds on the video.

You see these Frankfurt school style videos for vidya or ttrpg or just about anything troon related or really just how expensive scalpers have gotten for the hobbies. it's a kind of situation where your cooked from the get go unless you do a serious of amount of gate keeping and that means actually not telling people about sites or games and hiding the basic practice of the important things to yourself. like nobody seems to know what gate keeping is apart from saying to do it , I genuinely try to practice it.

Sure, there's lots of faggots out there doing lots of things, especially on youtube. You don't have to play with them. The entire point of curating your table of friends who aren't fucking weirdos is to avoid this shit in the first place.

Hide what? I don't care if troons know about a game, I don't care if they know I'm DM'ng a game, they aren't welcome at my table, the end. If they want to go play with other troons, they can go right on ahead. Me not mentioning the latest iteration of the 4chan trove isn't going to stop them from sticking their nose into shit, but I can keep them away from my table. You're not going to gatekeep troons from finding out about other game systems that are published and have been publicly available and discussed for years, you're also not going to gatekeep troons from places like reddit and discord, but you can keep them out of your games.

If I'm discussing DMng a game system in person at the LGS or whatever, and some man in a mumu waddles up and asks me what I'm talking about, they either get ignored or told that they weren't part of the conversation. Not because I give a damn about "gatekeeping" anything as if most of the shit couldn't be found via google at this point, it's because I don't want them in my presence for a conversation, at my table, or in my game.

Now something like wargaming or MTG is going to be a bit different unless you don't mind playing the same friend group repeatedly(which would get boring) but at that point you find out you're playing against a tranny, give them as minimal interaction as possible, move on, and remember not to setup a game with them again if it can be avoided.

You're not going to get the trannies out of tabletop gaming at this point. You just need to get them out of your table.

You'll need to make one yourself, but as Shadowrun has a lot of inherent appeal and things you can do with it, it isn't hard to craft a campaign that players you want will have fun in and find interesting. Selecting the right edition also helps, I've talked previously in the thread about it, aside from 6th, they're all defensible, though I'd say 3-5th are your best choices for a variety of reasons. Also think about the setting, Seattle is the classic and the original 1st edition Seattle sourcebook is fantastic, but depending on the vibe, British Isles, West Africa, Carribbean etc might be a better choice.

I'm now remembering I might have actually (kind of) played a session of Shadowrun. IIRC it was way back with some Alfa Legion guys. It's been so long, I can't remember if it was Shadowrun or Cyberpunk and we barely even got started into the session LOL.

That's understandable. Preparing to run a game sucks, it's like doing homework. Some of the GMs here can just wing it, but it's not possible if you're new to GMing.

Speaking of never-DMs: this guy has announced that he forgot that he had something planned and won't be able to make it this week. That's right, no Obojima again! And just when he was going to have that one-shot ready! Inshallah, we'll be able to continue the rat game without him.

As a forever-DM, I can't understand this mindset. I can't even play anymore because I can't trust other GM's to be as thorough as me. Prep is my favorite part of the game, tied with listening to my players post-session.

I enjoy prepping games, after successfully cajoling one of my players to run a campaign after being the group's GM for a few years, not running something has me feeling weird, so I have been looking for something to run.

You should try Shadowrun with an episodic structure, have everyone, including you, make a character, and switch off who is running the game every so often. I have done it, and even though I ran 50% of the games, it was fun to occasionally get some licks in as a player.

Yeah my only other friend who has GMed anything worth a shit in the last few years has mentioned doing something like that. Could try Shadowrun while doing an episodic thing.

I'm not fully there, because I do enjoy being a player, but it's almost exclusively for systems I'm new to or trying to learn more from. Once I get all I feel I need, I'm a player if my other friend actually GMs.

Almost understandable to me. I think everyone should be brave enough to try GMing at least twice. The first time will be a total disaster, but usually you can figure something out the second. If after the second you still don't feel it at all, I completely understand.

Maybe I overprepare. Also I'm a big fan of props, a.k.a. manchild toys. Novelty dice, snowglobes, special hats, goofy toys as "minis".

Once I tried to use a short chain of guitar amps plugged into a microphone and a small speaker so that I could speak with a unique demonic voice (including a bitcrusher that I bought because it was absolutely necessary and not because I wanted to noodle around with it (same with a MIDI drumpad for an online game, this was a crucial purchase)), but I had only tested it with headphones and in the game store it created a loud screeching noise that got me in trouble with the owner.

Another time I tried to surprise the players with an idol with eyes that lit up when I spoke into a hidden Bluetooth microphone, but I soldered a cold weld inside the idol that snapped en route to the store and it didn't work.*sigh*

No no, that's exactly it. That's the game. I make my own handouts and props and diegetic documents and have names and backstories and connections for the store clerk that they may incidentally talk to, and factions and NPCs interacting with each other and making moves between sessions...

Creating an immersive reactive world is 100% the point. I think of it as a hobby more than an activity
