I think one particular case of this is the insistence of Trump being a felon. He's a felon only according to New York law, and the felony has to do with...Documents about paying a whore not to tell people she fucked Trump. Normally, what do most people think when they hear the word "felony"? Murder, rape, kidnapping, or drug manufacturing/trafficking. Not some badly written documents centering around "Hey, here's some cash to keep mum about some consensual sex you had with this guy".
