How will Bob react to seeing the Mario film?

How many of those are actually good and successful, though? Shovel Knight and Super Meat Boy maybe? I'm sure there are others (like Fez) that met with some success, but that was notoriously a buggy piece of shit.

Well you do have DUST and a few others, but your point stands as most platformers suck because they are the same damn game over and over again and the 90s almost burnt out the platformer genre because of that. I honestly believe that are conversation was more insightful and informative than anything the "Game Underthinker" could ever muster.

Well hell the Indie scene is absolutely polluted with shitty platformers because of how easy they are to make in comparison to other genres. Plus I also fear that success of platformers will allow backstabbing assholes like Phil Fish to thrive. To bring this back on topic, did Bob ever have an opinion on FEZ and/or Phil's epic spergout?
Most of those shitty indie titles are on the PC, and Bob doesn't play on PC as far as I know. If it isn't on a console (particularly a Nintendo console), he couldn't care less about it.

I completely forgot about that as he would actually use that to suck up to Nintendo's brutal treatment of 3rd party developers to have quality control

So Bob's brother has been posting stills from a short movie they made in 1998. If you've ever wanted to see teenage Bob, well here he is in his corpulent glory:

Apparently, fictional stories must NEVER portray horrible things and be whitewashed and idealized, because where else will the plebeians get their morals (besides, it's not like GoT depicts loads of other horrific things, so why's misogyny off the table?).

He looks like an amalgamation of every annoying fat kid I knew in grade school.

I don't think Bob realizes that the platform mascot era was his generation's FPS, where they were a dime a dozen and all of them identical. Bubsy's only relevant not only because he was an obvious cash-in on the mascot platform craze, but also because he was in one of the worst 3D platformers of all time. If it were anything else, like Aero the Acrobat or Awesome Possum, literally nobody would give a shit. He stands in opposition to current trends in gaming because his trend died at the turn of the century.

I remember how deeply people resented the scale of B team platformers when I was a child, it's partly because of them that RPG's, shoot em up, Beat em ups and point and click adventures are so fondly remembered because anything was preferable to Bubsy. I'm wondering if they'll be some worthless fps chamption in 2027 lamenting the collapse to FPS in the face of something or another.

Jesus, even as a teen he's like five times the size of a normal person.

Reminder that Bob is a movie critic who doesn't understand that stories require some kind of obstacle or conflict. This is some small children would understand about storytelling.

Well Bob does want conflict, but he doesn't want conflicting morals or anything that one that would show the hero in any negative light. Bob only wants simplistic and easy to digest good-vs-evil stories which is why he loves MCU and Star Wars.

It fucking pegs me how Bob and so many other tards who call themselves "writers" or "critics" or "enthusiasts" hate the fundamentals of good storytelling. Heroes must always be protected minorities and therefore nothing bad can ever happen to them. That's the most basic concept behind fiction: something bad happens and the hero reacts. I would fucking hate reading or watching something written by these faggots because it would be unbearably boring. I can't even compare there ideal stories to slice of life anime garbage because even in that things fucking happen.

If Bob and his kin wrote something, it would probably read like the most fascistic pro Hitler fanfic of all time, because their idea of a "hero" is someone "pro-active" who fights for their cause. And by proactive I mean "runs through the streets and shoots down all the dude bros and doesn't end up in prison because he/she/transperson never hurts the wrong person or everyone of course agrees that the "bad" person deserved it.
In other words: we get Sonichu, but by people who got an even more useless degree in gender studies and talking shit about videogames than Chris did in whatever he graduated in.

It's even worse because Bob's ideal stories of "All powerful progressive government casually steamrolls over insurgents" could work if the focus was on the rebel's downfall. There's more to work with using the guy who's killed for saying there's 2 genders than there is with some politician who approves a drone strike and goes back to their 400th playthrough of Mario 3. You'd think he'd be all for showing how much of a monster his opponents are in his self-insert garbage but nope, he'd prefer the latter to be the only focus.

He's tweeted about, he's talked about it, and now he's making a pseudo-Game Overthinker video!

Tl;dw: Bob briefly touches on the revival of the Game Overthinker Series. Sort touch up on Bubsy and the history behind it. Followed by retro games sperging, complains about internet culture. The shocker is Bob liking the concept of Bubsy the character, who somehow stood out and is remembered today, which is promptly followed by shitting of the FPS genre (calls the period a "rough couple of years"). Ends by stating Bubsy matters because he stands in opposition to the current trends in gaming.

I don't get it. Why Bubsy of all things? If he wanted to talk about games "standing in the opposition to the current trend in gaming" and if he wanted to stick solely to platforming games, why not something like Yooka-Laylee or Sonic Mania (yes I know, but honestly it looks alright). Or even the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy? Crash was similar to Bubsy in that for a while people just wanted him gone, but unlike Bubsy, people were kinda happy to see Crash back with an actual good game this time.

But no, he picked Bubsy as the game opposing current trends in gaming.

EDIT: Just watched through the video (well skimmed through it) and I saw he did mention Crash Bandicoot (and Croc too) as the mediocre platformers that were inspired by Sonic. I'm curious, does Bob even know about Crash Bandicoot's comeback or does he not care because it's not Mario or Bubsy?

Does Bob realize that most gamers don't remember Bubsy too fondly? Come on Bob, Jontron and SomeCallMeJohnny, people who are better at this stuff than him, even pointed that out. Could've chosen Crash Bandicoot or Banjo Kazooie but nope, gotta stand out.

Quite possibly why he's going to bat for the franchise. Contrarianism defines most of Bob's opinions.
One think is being contrariant and saying hey I like the... let's say second Star Wars trilogy because I liked that it was a decosntruction and the shakespearean theater-core style, even if the acting was horrendous.
Other thing is praising a game everyone agrees is not even so-bad-its-good and failed not just in style, tone, plot and everything else, but as a game that's not even playable.

Come to think of it, his Terminator pitch was basically this:

but framed in a positive light.
