Okay guys, listen. A number, address, real name, email address, etc. aren't funny in and of themselves. What is funny? Things that may potentially be attached to it. Dox commonly lead to finding out other funny, salient, interesting or dramatic parts of a lolcow's life. By limiting the search to no dox, you can potentially miss out on some interesting stuff. You can find out that they lied about their past, that they live in a seedy neighborhood, that they still live in their parent's basement, that they are being supported by an Aunt who dislikes them, etc. These things can cascade to other funny and interesting things. They might not. But limiting the discussion based on some constructed perception of the dangers of some personal info being dropped is silly.

Let's look at the case of Kiwi Farms. We collect this info by the truckload. There have only been a handful of instances where the info collected here has been used to engage with a cow, and in each instance where staff discovered it, we have ridiculed and dressed down the people who engaged in the retarded behavior. Look at the case of @A Hot Pizza (formerly @A Hot Potato). He got stupid and decided to call a pizza in for a lolcow, people are still needling him and he had a name change over it.

Further, this info is public info. If someone wants to find it, they can find it with enough effort. We aren't super secret elite spies, just retards shitposting on the online. Getting your dox dropped only means as much as you perceive it to mean. It can happen on KF and if you never see it, it can likely never even impact you.

tl;dr calm down, dox aren't a big deal.

In the incident talked about, a cow's phone number was posted. For posterity more than anything else. In other areas of the board a cow's full name, address, phone number, even sometimes workplaces are listed. Sometimes their entire family is doxed. If you decide to harass them you'll be mocked- a lot of our 'halals' (a.k.a members of the forum who got a thread) were discovered because they couldn't keep their autism to a minimum over shit like this

My issue regarding doxing is that despite the fact there *is* a "look, don't touch" rule/standard that is generally encouraged, weens are gonna ween. Someone is inevitably going to disregard that shit and try to poke the cow and do something stupid (look at that guy who camped outsidr Chris' house in an RV), sometimes even regardless of public shaming or being told to cut it the fuck out.

As such, even if the cow doesn't spook and try to delete fucking everything once they realize their personal info is out there, the threads are usually not as fun/turn to shit as the weens proceed to make it all about themselves and their "lel epik trolling" attempts or they poke and agitate the cow for a reaction, which is never as fun as the cow's own natural/organic nonsense.

TL;DR: Doxing can be entertaining in theory but in practice too many bad apples spoil the cider for everyone.

This, basically. I've seen it a lot in some of the beauty parlour threads (mainly the Amberlynn Reid one) when people clearly should have done the good old 'lurk moar' thing. People rating things powerlevel or A-log eventhough they aren't by any stretch of the imagination, powerleveling like a motherfucker, getting genuinely angry at some broad for being fat, getting offended at a relatively minor dox.

I hate to sound like an oldfag, because I'm not, but if a (possibly out of date) phone number bothers you you'll probably feel more at home at PULL, or YTT, or GuruGossiper rather than KF.

Find Facebook profiles
Find publicly postings ebegging on tumblr
Determine businesses they might operate

I've gotten all four with phone numbers alone which, as always, brings in more content. Anyone who has issues on the ethics and optics of doxing needs to yell at the government instead of us because the amount of information on you in the wild and freely available by your own government is staggering.

This is true. You can find the dimensions of cow's basements, work they have had done on their homes, lawsuits, etc. Roketsune's current address was discovered through court proceedings and a letter he had his doctor write for him. All of that is entertaining content. Anyone saying "I call bullshit on dox being anything more than a way to get a cow harassed" has never dug on a cow and seen the usefulness of dox in locating quality content.

It feels like a lot of the bad rep we get for doxing is because those people misunderstand what we do with dox. Trying to ruin the person's life with their dox is frowned on, even when the person of interest is a pedo and their dox is right in the thread title. A lot of the people say on like Twitter and Tumblr crying about us being mean evil doxers support the same things happening to "bad people", attempts to get them fired etc. ie., it's ok when they do it to actively try and get people harassed, the problem with this site isn't that there's dox on here but that we're seen as ideological opponents by people across the board.

Some people are certainly more dox worthy than others and plenty of these people ether put the info out or make it way too easy to find them.
Although when it comes to abusive cows, pedos/rapists or truly horrible people who actually harm other people I think dox are a fair inclusion.

Does Amberlynn need to be doxed? Not really. Is it some crime again humanity or travesty? Not really either.

I think doxing should only be in rare cases, for sick fucks like Nick Bate, or where some dumbass self-doxes (Chris). Because it could cause this place a lot of trouble. Look at it from that angle.

I'll use Onision as an example, since he's a BP cow that I follow regularly. The fucker made all these videos and sperged all over his social media about how he was going to be SO FUCKING POOR because mean Youtube was picking on him and not just rubber stamping monetization on his shitty videos. His other hothead point of contention was the EBIL IRS TRYING TO BANKRUPT HIM because he wrote off a bunch of random shit he owns as business related.
In something like that, having Gross McCuck's addresses does contribute to the thread because it shows the dipshit has not one, but two hugeass houses (he had a third house that he gave to his mom, for fuck's sake) that he could sell and downsize even a little and still live pretty comfortably. So I don't quite know that addresses, etc. "don't contribute anything" to the information in the thread.
I think the real problem is doxing combined with weening, in all honesty. Weening can get the flow of milk stopped really quickly from the cow, but for the most part most of the lovely autists in this fine place know better than that.
(Slightly aside, but ya know, cows do dox themselves a lot of the time. He's not a Beauty Parlor cow but John Bulla posts his dox (sexually) on Twitter pretty much every day. I think that a lot of you don't understand where you are. We try, in Beauty Parlour, to maintain a kind of separate space for you guys, away from the rest of the site, and we will continue to do so. But this is Kiwi Farms. If a cow has information out in the public domain, it's fair game here. There are members of this site who spend most of their time doxxing the people we talk about. These people are widely admired for being good at finding dox. That's Kiwi Farms culture.

If you find doxxing unethical, you're in the wrong place.

I'm not a fan of doxxing. But I knew what this place was way before I joined. Honestly, some of these cows do deserve it. And like AnOminous said, some dox themselves. SWATing is what actually pisses me off because it's dangerous and wastes time and money. But we are not 13 year olds playing COD.
