Notice how nobody decrying insane asylums used as a go-to horror trope are people that work in psychiatric medicine and are trying to discredit myths about mental hospitals and how patients are treated in order to make the idea of it less scary. It's always people with mental illnesses who either were or know someone who was held involuntarily and were traumatized by the experience... and are thus scared of it.

The thing with insane asylums as a horror trope isn't just that it's scary because of people with severe mental illnesses that act unpredictably and therefore are unsettling, it's also that you have a loss of control and are left questioning your own reality, and wind up being treated like an animal by the physicians and orderlies in charge.

So basically they're reinforcing the image of mental hospitals being scary places while decrying them being used in horror settings.

We’d like to start by getting back to the basics and what Furpocalypse stands for. We are a close family of staff and attendees who gather once a year for a weekend to have a good time enjoying what our fandom has to offer while raising money for charity, all in a friendly and safe environment. We, the board and staff, are passionate about our event and providing the community with the best convention experience possible. We spend a great deal of time and resources building and growing the convention, striving to make each year better than the last, all because we love our wonderful furry family.
This year we have seen a new hurdle and hardship that we had never intended. With the birth of Furpocalypse we introduced themes and the last thing we ever wanted was to create controversy by adding this flare to our event.
We understand the sensitivity surrounding the Haunted Asylum theme and sincerely apologize to those negatively impacted by it. We are taking what actions we can to make this year as comfortable as possible for all of our attendees. We will be reverting our registration levels to standard non-descriptive tiers.
We know this is a sensitive matter that holds dear to a lot of people. We have always tried to work hard to put on an event for everyone to have a good time, and this unintentionally caused displeasure amongst our community.
In the future, policies have been put in place to better vet the theme in the hope that this kind of situation does not occur in the future.
We really do care about our community and have always tried to bring people together, not divide them.

There's this trend that a lot of people have no idea what communism actually is, on a literal level. It's not "give people stuff for free".

In fact a lot of conservatives make the argument that government programs should be less of a thing because it disincentivizes people to donate money to help others out of their own free will and causes people to feel more entitled.

Also, paying for art isn't a "donation." You're paying for a service from a craftsman. In a communist regime however, art would be considered a luxury, and not one that would be available to the individual. So furries would be shit out of luck, since the artist economy runs entirely on catering to niche interests, right down to drawing each person's individual characters. Inflation fetish porn serves no purpose beyond titillation of people with that specific fetish; it doesn't have a message that can be used as propaganda for the government. Niche interests go against the idea of the people as a collective.

Paying an artist for a work that only you, the individual, would find real value in, and going directly to the source to pay for it... I don't know if that qualifies as capitalism, but it sure as hell don't sound very communist.

There are also furries out there who will blow money on numerous amounts of porn of either their fursona or of some character they are obsessed with. Togepi1125 is perhaps the most infamous example of this, spending $65k and counting on furry porn commissions of the same 2 characters in the same scenario every single time to the point where he has become somewhat of a meme in the furry fandom.

As long as those 2 things exist, the furry fandom is as far from communism as it gets, especially as there are plenty of furries willing to cash in on other furries. Just look at a dealer room at a furry con or better, look at the fact there is a market for animal dildos.
